I googled the nexium side affects and got this site.  I saw that there was a thread but it was old so thought it would be okay to start new thread.

I started taking nexium 2 weeks ago.  I had a physical at the time and the Dr. said everything was fine.  I have been having some strange side effects (I believe it's the nexium), but I didn't see anyone mention them in the previous nexium thread.  I have been having lower abdominal pain and bleeding.  Did know if anyone has ever heard of this before or not?

Never heard of that before. I have constipation, edema in the feet/legs, and possible blurred vision. Since my insurance won't cover Nexium after 9/1/06, I'll try to see if I can get an Rx for Protonix. I don't think the Nexium has done such a great job with healing my erosive esophagitis. I've been on it since 4/14/06.

You should call your doc about the pain and bleeding. That could be related to something completely different.

You have abdominal pain and bleeding and the Dr. said everything was OK? That doesn't seem right to me. If it hasn't stopped, I would find someone who would investigate the cause for this...is the Dr. a Gastro? You shouldn't let him/her stop you from getting some answers...if this person won't, find someone else who will help you.

:-)  i totally agree with carleen, beat a quick path back to the doctor, have you at least stopped the med to see if the bleeding and pain go away?

I didn't have any problems until after I started taking the Nexium. That was why I thought it might be associated. I stopped taking it day before yesterday and am hoping everything clears up! If not, I will be calling the Dr. which I really hate doing! :)

i took nexium for 4 days and by the end of the 4th day i had such bad D that i went to see the doc and he put me on flagyl b/c i developed c-dif

You really need to call the doc about the bleeding. It could be any number of serious things. It should really be checked. I have ulcertive colitis and that causes bleeding and stomach pain like you described. If that is what it is it needs to be caught right away. My first episode was let go and I ended up in the hospital for 9 days until they could get it under control. So it is very important to have any bleeding checked out right away. Barb

I finally called the doctor and made an appointment... he mentioned that it could be colitis just like you said. He referred me to another doctor. I felt silly about calling the doctor but after what you said and what the doctor said, I am really glad that I went ahead and went.

I am so glad you called the doc. Any kind of bleeding is a sign of something serious that should be checked out. Make sure you let me know how you are doing and what the doc says. Barb

My doctor's appointment went fine.  He told me he want to do a colonoscopy just to make sure everything is okay.  I am not to thrilled about that but would rather be safe than sorry.  No more bleeding.

im thinking of starting to take probiotics, ive done alot of research on this and also stopping all soft drinks possibly forever , plus more natural products

I'm glad you went and had that checked out. I was glad last year when I listened to my doc and had the test done and he found 2 polyps one of which was precancerous. So it is well worth having the test done.

As for soda I have had to give that up. It definitely causes heartburn. My doc said anything that is carbonated is out of the question. Probiotics can't hurt. I am taking acidophilus. I am just about ready to give up on all these stomach meds and go natural myself. Let me know how that works for you. Barb

I had never heard of that either... But I am glad you got with your dr about it.. And a coloscopy is not as bad as it sounds...
