i had an endoscopy on the 18th. the gastro wasn't there when i woke up so i asked the nurse if they found anything. she said no. so i figured i'll wait to see my doctor to get the gastro's report. it's been over a week and the my doctor has still not received the report. i'm freaking out and am full of fear wondering if they had found something and had to send it for biopsy and that's why it's taken so long.

in the meantime, my throat is getting inflammed yet again. this happened despite me sticking to a strict diet regimen.

i'm afraid of what the endoscopy might have found. what if it's not reflux? after all, even the gastro had said that my symptoms are atypical in that i only have a sore throat. I have no heartburn, no sour/bitter taste in mouth, no trouble swallowing.

i don't know what to do anymore and being a hypochondriac who automatically thinks the worst isn't helping.

Hi Meryl,

I don't know if this will help you, but it's typical to have biopsies done whenever you have an endoscopy.  In fact, your doctor would be considered incompetent if he/she did not send out biopsies for evaluation.  It does usually take a week or so before biopsies come back.  I'm surprised, though, that your doctor did not even mention anything to you briefly after the procedure.  both times I've had an endoscopy, the doctor came to see me briefly after I got dressed.  I was wacked out on drugs both times, but my husband was there too, so he usually got the whole story. 

Call your doctor again.  don't give up until you get a response back from him.

I agree with elcamino that you need to call you dr back.. Bug them enough and they will get the answers..

Finally heard that the report is in. I have an appt tomorrow. Hope I can sleep tonite. I'm scared out of my mind.

I'm not sure how I'm feeling. The Gastro's report says nothing unusual was observed. Some biopsies were sent out and will be back in a few weeks. Of course I'm relieved nothing was found but I am back at square one. What's causing my symptoms?

By nothing, it meant no evidence of acid reflux even! What do I do now?

Hey MerylG... there may still be something going on, the biopsy results aren't back yet. When do you go in for that? Are you taking any type of PPI?

I am taking Aciphex. I was on 20 mg but have been taking 10 mg for a week now. I haven't noticed much difference with the lower dose so I'm thinking of going off it completely in a week's time. I asked the doctor why they didn't see anything when my throat was sore on the day of my endoscopy. She said it could have healed from my PPI? Doesn't make sense to me...how can I feel pain and be healed at the same time?

I'm also having discomfort around my jaw and the right side of my head. I had also seen an ENT before the Gastro and the ENT had diagnosed me with TMJ. I wonder if the TMJ could account for my sore throat?? Maybe I'm grasping at straws??

Anyways, I'm going to see my Dentist next week...and maybe a Traditional Chinese Doctor for acupuncture...and maybe a Chiropractor...@$%# it all, I just want to feel normal again! I am so...so... frustrated.

Thank you for 'listening' and for your support. If it wasn't for this board, I think I would have gone off the deep end.

Hey MerylG, sorry you've had to go through so many doctors. I was wondering...
Do you have a possible family history of allergies? Just trying to think up suggestions to help you out, Hot teas (de-caf) help with my sore throats sometimes.
Going to so many doctors can be quite frustrating.
Really wish I could help you out more with advise.

Hey MerylG, that's what we're here for... we aren't doctors and therefore can't make you physically feel better, but we can emotionally.. is nice to know that you're not alone... I don't know if TMJ can cause the sore throat or not... I'll have to do some research and see what I come up with... It's hard not to grasp at straws, when the paid professionals are scratching their heads themselves! Hang in there and let us know what the dentist says! Duck

Doctor: It's a big building with a lot of doctors, but that's not important now!
At least doctors know how to get to work!
If they only knew more about us as people and not lab rats...

You guys are the best! On the bright side, I'm starting to incorporate food that I wouldn't normally eat. Today, I had a lamb chop and a banana chocolate chip muffin. I'm hoping I didn't go too far.

Hi MerylG...I am in the same boat as you. I have sore throat, difficulty swallowing sometimes, bitter sour taste in my throat sometimes and some belching too but no stomach problems. I also have asthma, allergies and sinus problems so it could be from that. This has been going on for years...what is it? I will be having my 3rd scope soon and I also find it upsetting and scarey.

Inflammation feels like burning. It's somewhat soothed by cold water or mint.
I still have no idea what's bugging my throat and I've made appointments to see a dentist and I'm going back to the ENT to see if it's something else. I will keep you posted.

I am so scared I feel nauseous.

The Gastro's office just called wanting me to come in for a 'follow up'.  I don't know why a follow up is required.  After all, a report was already sent to my doctor saying they didn't see anything.  They did say in the report that the biopsy results were still pending.

I'm so scared that the reason for the 'follow up' is that the biopsy results found something bad.  Also, I never could understand why they had to biopsy when they didn't see anything in the first place.  I can't get to see in to see the Gastro until the 26th.  I don't know what I'll do until then.  I'm so frightened.

Don't be scared. Sometimes they just want to see you to confirm there is nothing wrong and to advise you not to take medicines, etc. I hate to sound cynical but don't forget every time they see you they make more money. It is alll a bit much sometimes. I don't know what is wrong with me either.
