Upper sinus infection--related to GERD?

 I have just been diagnosed with an infection in the ethmoid and

sphenoid (upper) sinuses.  I have had acid reflux  for about a year; it developed following throat surgery for sleep apnea, which was then followed by inhalation pneumonia and a panic attack.  Since then I have had chronic nausea, lack of appetite, dry and sour mouth, coated tongue.  I've seen both a GI doc and ENT, and no one seems to be able to figure out if this is a GI, ENT or stress issue. I guess they are all related. I"m wondering if a lot of you on this forum have similar GI/sinus symptoms, especially the nausea and lack of appetite.  The ENT put me on a heavy-duty antibiotic for the sinus infection, which I'm worried will create more havoc in my GI tract.  Thanks!

I know I have a lot of sinus infections. I have allergies/asthma and all that good stuff....what I don't know is where my sore throat, hoarseness and all that is coming from. Is it dripping down from sinus or is it coming up from reflux. I have a good appetite, no nausea.

i got several sinus unfections from gerd backing up into my throat at night and into my lungs and up my nose so yes it is a cause of that....taking AX  knoicks it out but then gives me problems with my bowmels which casues me more problems with my stomach, so i can onlytake zantac and i try not to eat 6 hours before bedtime

I have severe constant infections..I have been on prevacid a month, and it hasn't done a thing.  I dont' know what to do anymore.

Im on Protinix for acid reflux and the GERDS, Reglan for gastroparesis(slow emptying of stomach)for the vomiting.

And erothomyicin a low dose anti biotic also for the Gastroparesis.  Does any one else here have the problem of a slow empting stomach, if so what do you do, or not do.

Oh since Ive sorta got the vomiting under control, I havent had to much trouble with the sinuses, Every now and then I will have some drainage and will a hourse throat, but that could be allergies, it is that time of year again .

Does anyone here suffer Gastroparesis along with the sinus problems?

annalisa, no i havent asked my gi about it, should have though. Right now i have no insurance, my husband got laid off a couple weeks ago after working for the same company for 15 years. i have a sinus and chest infection right now and with thanksgiving just being over the gastroparesis is acting up , it was under control for a long time with reglan, erothymyicni, and protinx, but now not being on the eroythomicin it getting worse agian. fortunately the reglan s very  cheap i was able to get it, will have to wait til i get some money to get the erothmyicin filled again. but it is quite coincendental to have the gastroparesis acting up when i have the respitory infection, i think maybe the sinuses draining down my throat to my stomach??? dont know, let me know what doc thinks.  I hope you had a Great Thanksgiving, take care....

per my Pulmy spec GERD can cause sinus infestion and start Asthma, I'm having a sinus infestion on vantin, they I have appt with my ENT on Wednesday to cult sinus what is causes the recurrent infestion, I'm sorry to heard that your husband was layed off, hopefully he be called back soon. I know that stress can make gastroparesis worst,

All of this is new to me. I notice on the posting many of you mention your sinus infection come from your reflux problems. Neither one of my doctors have connect the two problems. So now I am wondering if I should mention this to both of them and see if they can do something different that will help. I have been spitting and gagging up green and yellow mucos or phlegm every since I can remember as a child and I am now 61 years old. I am taking antibiotics right now because i believe i have sinus infection, which does not seem to be breaking up the phlegm stuck in my throat. (it has been 3 days) I had surgery to open my sinuses to allow proper drainage that is not working. I do the netty pot almost everyday after the surgery and it is not working. I have a strong sinus smell that makes people back away or hold their nose sneakingly. I talk to both my primary doctor and my ENT doctor and they have no answers. What do I do?

I'm 65 and so happy to see I'm not alone in this! I too thought I was dying.In the last year I've had several major sinus infections and in the last few months horrible acid reflux has been added. Bio-identical hormones seem to help the reflux, but you have to know when to let up on them or it reverses. I'm glad to hear the sinus infctions are connected too. I have an appointment with my gastro in less than 2 weeks. Going to push this. I mentioned the hormone connection to the reflux last time. She said she believes there is a connection, but not enough research. Drs. have had me double up on omeprazole and said to use Zantac too, but I think that was all too much and really made it so much worse. I was better after stopping all, but after a couple of weeks, it started all over again. I've kept track of symptoms for the last 3 years and it's all on a cycle. Symptoms seem to come about the same time every month. That's why I decided it WAS hormonal.
