I actually suffered from excessive hunger when my gerd started 4 years ago. SO i would eat every 2 hours all day. I eventually ballooned to 202 lbs from 176. As I studied the disease through reading, internet, my doctor, etc...I realized it was not hunger at all but rather extreme acidity. When our stomach is extremely acidic we get hunger SPASMS. But these spasms does not physiologically mean that you are hungry because there is a lot of food in your stomach, since you ate just 2 hours ago. The violent cycle starts when you start eating all the time, the more food, the more acid needed to break it down. The fuller you get throughout the day, the more acid is produced.
Here is what I suggest go to your doc get the right prescription. I take nexium 2x a day, and zantac if I get acidic. I eat a banana as a mid morning snack, and as a mid afternoon snack. When the spasms hit, eat something healthy like a banana, almonds, or avocado, and take antacid. After a while you will control the spasms and maintain a healthy weight.
