H Pylori Question

Did you get tested for H Pylori?  It's a very simple breath test.  I've told my story of how I got GERD.  It was by taking Advil at night, for pain from my tripping accident when I  and injuring my left side, and not staying upright for at least 1/2 and hour after taking it.  Then sleeping exclusively on my right side so the acid started seeping up into my esophagus. 

It goes to show you, there are many causes of GERD.

Get tested to rule out H Pylori.

I done so much research on GERD, you wouldn't believe. Yes, MOST likely, if you were to have H. Pylori, your stomach would freaking hurt. But A LOT of people have it. But they don't have stomach probs or GERD. What's intersting is that there's a research out there that shows that people who had stomach ulcers, supposedly from H. Pylori, who get treated for it by eradicating H.Pylori end up getting GERD later.

My doctor thought I had LPR because I had a chronic sore lower throat. I went for an endoscopy where a biopsy was taken and I tested positive for H. Pylori. I had no 'ulcer-like' symptoms...other than bloating. There was no stomach pains whatsoever so I was extremely surprised. From my research, there are 2 accurate ways to test for H. pylori...Urea breath test and a Biopsy. The breath test is non-invasive and takes about half an hour.

As far as I know H. Pylori infection causes low grade inflammation of the stomach and will cause all sorts of gastro-intestinal symptoms so I think you shouldn't be discouraged by your Dr's lack of enthusiasm. Persist and continue to advocate for yourself!

The treatment for H. Pylori is a PPI plus 2 antibiotics. I took this and it threw my system completely out of whack. Medication is a necessary evil I suppose.
