Friendlygal,
Yes, my GI said exactly that! Imagine!
Make sure you eat alot of cooked vegetables only. If you eat cooked vegetables (spinach, kale, collard greens, carrots etc), tofu, avocados and other alkaline foods you should not be constipated.
Try using them for about a week and let us know how you are.
You can also use Benefiber, that's the most natural and easy to take (not gritty, mixes in water) fiber supplement.
It's been working really well for my friend who was always constipated.
Danie, thanks for the suggestion. The problem is that I may have gastroparesis which has caused my reflux (delayed emptying of the stomach). In that case, I am supposed to eat a diet low in fiber since fiber doesn't get digested. I have tried Benefiber and always eat vegetables and it hasn't worked. Maybe it's because I have gastroparesis. But I will find out. I will do a stomach emptying test. I will let you know the results of that. Thanks.
I also have not been exercising because I get so tired from having trouble sleeping as a result of having to go to the bathroom all the time! So I will get back to exercising and this should decrease my constipation somewhat.
Here is info. from a site about gastroparesis (the part about how I need to eat foods low in fiber and stay away from fiber supplements): "A diet low in fiber is suggested. Fiber delays gastric emptying. In addition, fiber may bind together and cause a blockage of the stomach, called a bezoar in some patients. Examples of high fiber foods that should be avoided include oranges, berries, green beans, potato peels, apples, sauerkraut, and Brussels sprouts. Fiber supplements for treatment of constipation should also be discontinued if possible."
