I was rereading your post regarding all the problems you are having with your GERD.  You say that your LES is very loose and so your GERD is very severe.  Have any of your docs talked about surgery to tighten your LES?  Please know that I am not making a suggestion; I am just asking the question.  I've read that there are many techniques for doing this - different ones than just the fundoplication.  I've read about a treatment done by some docs called Bard endocinch.  Has anyone suggested this or any other surgery to you?

I just posted to your topic about "questions about pills" and it will explain some things to you. Yes, I have considered the surgery, especially when my Prevacid wasn't working correctly.

I talked to my doctor about the endocinch and his comment was that they don't have alot of success with it.
Since I've only been on the meds since last October, my doctor hasn't been very supportive about me having surgery yet and now that my Prevacid is working so well, I will continue as long as it works and I haven't developed any serious side effects.

I'm also waiting for the Esophyx procedure to be perfected and accepted by the FDA for use in the U.S. It sounds like the answer if you have to have surgery....you can find out about it at www.Esophyx. com.

sillylilly, i was hoping that you got better.  because at one point you said that they found out you were refluxing bile.  i thought that taking zelnorm helped the prevacid work for you.

i've been perscribed miralax for my constipation because my PCP said that zelnorm is for constipation due to IBS.

i am hoping that once i get on a regular bowel movement schedule, i will no longer have reflux and will no longer need the medication.  i did not take the medication today.  i don't feel any worse than with it. 

i finally went BM today!!!!!!  So I hope that this is my personal road to recovery.

FriendlyGal, congrats to you. I know you said you had two yogurts today which I have said is also good to take but did you by chance take the Apple Cider Vinegar that I recommended yesterday?

My doctor "suggested" that I could be refluxing bile...he never tested me or anything to see if that was it. It's trial and error with doctors, too. And, yes, for a while I thought the Zelnorm was helping but I guess I was just having some good days. But, now I've been off the probiotics for over a week and the Prevacid is working great every day. It's unbelievable, but for me, the probiotics have been the culprit that have kept the meds from working...I don't know why.

I tried the miralax also, and it made me so bloated that I didn't like it but it may work very well for you. It's great if you can get off the PPI and congratulations on your BM.

RandyDandy, no I didn't try the ACV yet. 

sillylilly, I hope you continue to feel better.  Can't the doctors test you to see if you're refluxing bile?  I will do a gastric emptying test to see if I am slow to empty contents.  If I am (which is almost 100% certain) then it is very likely that I am refluxing bile.

I still feel nauseous and have a lump in my throat tonight.  And I still feel constipated.  At least I had SOME BM today. Last time I had BM it never continued.

I hope it continues this time!  I bought perscription Miralax and Metamucil finally (just now).  I hope the Miralax doesn't make me feel bloated like it did you, sillylilly.  Because I already feel so bloated!

Have you tried Benefiber?  It's apparently not gritty and mixes either in water or other liquids or you can put it in food.

It's being marketed in Europe for people with IBS so maybe it doesn't have some of the side effects that other fibers have.

I was telling you before that I have tried benefiber.  It didn't work for me.  I bought metamucil but I couldn't get the smooth one because it is orange flavored.  I hope it's not too gritty for me.

When you tried to Benefiber did you use it 3 times a day?  Did you take it for at least a week to see if it worked?  I know a few people who have your problem that it really helped but it took a little time to adjust their system.

Danie, I took benefiber religiously and I liked the taste of it even!

But it didn't work.  Good news though, I made another BM again today (I took metamucil last night for the first time so maybe that is why).  I still couldn't go last night and felt a terrible bloating and like there was an obstruction in my stomach (as I feel now).  But at least I went again!

I might still have a serious problem because I feel a ton of stool still in me and bloating, but it's good that I went two days in a row.  phew!!

I looked on the web for Esophyx and see that it is a company that has created a device that performs endoscopic surgery on people with reflux. It seems that the device is used to put 'pleats' into the LES. Isn't this already a surgical option? It looks to me as if this company has merely developed a less invasive way to do this surgery. Am I missing something?

AS I understand it, it's the same procedure as a Nissen wrap only it is done without making any incisions. It's called the ELF procedure.

It takes about 4 days for the Miralax to work efficiently.

sillylilly, thanks for that info on the miralax.  it does say on the bottle that it could take a few days to work.  but i wasn't sure if it would.  thanks for clarifying. :)

i barely went BM today but i did go a bit in the morning.  but i will sit tight and wait for the miralax to work. :)
