I am currently attached to a PH-monitor.  Anyone ever have this done?  I hope I'm recording things right!  Is the PH more important than my actual recordings?

Just a question, friendlygal . . . you are having every test in the book.  What are they hoping to find?  Are they trying to figure out an effective way to treat you?

PH-testing is done when they don't know exactly what is going on in your body or when you do not respond to medication.

So what are you hoping to learn and how will this affect your treatment? I only ask because it is my feeling that they can test and test and test and test but if it doesn't make a difference in the end, what is the point? I'm not criticizing what you are doing, I am just asking you to think about why you are doing it. I assume you have really good insurance?

Tummytuck, I am very glad that I'm getting tested.  In fact, the colonoscopy showed that I have a twisted/spastic colon.  Without this test, I would not have known that.

PH-testing is great for knowing how bad your reflux really is.

Colonoscopys are good, definitive tests. What are you doing with the information you have learned? What are the docs going to do with the information they get from your PH test? Are they going to change your meds in response or are the tests going to indicate that you need some sort of surgery? Will there be another test to take after the PH test?

Friendlygal,

I, for one, am glad to hear that you are having some tests to see what's going on.  I've been away from the forum for awhile because my mother had a stroke, so it's good to get back and see some progress for you.  I hope you are on your way to seeing some good results from the testing.

I know what tummytuck means about tests not always helping.  But I still don't know what will be later.  Who knows, maybe they will help.

I apologize if I sounded critical of the path friendlygal is taking. That was not my intention. Friendlygal, you seem to have several issues going on what with your colon and your motility problems and your GERD. You had mentioned before that you weren't real crazy about your GI doc and you felt that she didn't really listen to you. Be your own advocate in all of this and trust your instincts.

Tummytuck, I was just overwhelmed with your questions.  I know you didn't mean to be overwhelming, but it is just impossible to answer what will be in the future!!

I am happier with the GI doc that I have now.  I am glad that she's doing testing.  It seems like a step in the right direction.  After all, she found out that I have a twisted colon and she found that I don't have gastroparesis.

Indersonu, thanks for your response but I know very well what gastroparesis is.  I was tested for that because I do have nausea, lack of appetite, feeling of fullness, constipation, etc. etc.  However, you can have all of that and not have gastroparesis.  I already have a motilitiy problem in the colon.  Now they are testing me for esophageal motility problems due to the lump in my throat and constant belching, etc. Motility problems are not just in the stomach.

And because I tested positive for a bacterial overgrowth in the colon, that is also causing my bloating, nausea, etc.

indersonu, you mean all this time that you said you had gastroparesis you didn't even get tested for it??

You should get tested for it!!  That way you will know for sure.  It is an easy test.  It's painless.  you just bring in 2 eggs and they cook it for you.  They place something radioactive in it and then you lie down for an hour with a camera on you (you don't even see it flash).  The radioactive thing that they put in the food IS NOT harmful!

indersonu, thanks for sharing your age.  I'm not surprised you have to beg for another endoscopy because they don't like to give them often.

But if you asked for a gastroparesis test, they'd probably give it to you...You don't have to be sedated so it is much simpler than an endoscopy or colonoscopy.  Who put in your mind that you might have gastroparesis?  Was it the doctors?

indersonu, were you last scoped more than a year ago?  i didn't realize it was that long ago...was your esophagus normal?

maybe you do have gastroparesis, i don't know. but you'd have to get checked to know for sure. 

I also feel very nauseous and have a lump in my throat.  But my esophagus is normal.

Have you ever been PH-tested to see how bad your GERD is?  I just returned the monitor for the PH testing...

indersonu, I am eating more freely than before.  because avoiding so many foods did nothing to help me anyway.
