Hi,
I havehad gerds since last august. I have always had a problem with heartburn, but last august is when this hit me really hard. My first severe symptoms were a nagging cough, laryngitis like symptoms and then bamb it hit me...the terrible pain between my shoulder blades! That is what finally caused me to see a dr. My dr said it has to do with something called "deferred pain", which is pain that is really in your stomach , but ofr somereason manifests itself to the shoulderblade. Usually the left shoulder blade is a stomach issue, and the right shoulderblade is pancreas or gallbladder. Mine tends to be in the left area and sometime in the middle. It can range from just annoying to a sharp "gas" like pain or really quite painful at times. Now, I have done research on my own, and found this to be a common symptom for gerds sufferers. I also have read that there is a nerve called the phrenal nerve that runs down that area from the cranium all the way down the spine, and sometimes when it is irritated, it can cause pain in this area. It is also the nerve that is responsible for the diaphragm moving up and down when we breathe, which can account for how some of us have some problems breathing at times also. I tend to get like a small hicup feeling in my diaphgragm, as it is like a small spasm at times. I do not know if this is from gerds or stress because I am a very tense personand I tend to worry alot, especially about all of these symptoms.
I hope this helps....and if anyone else has anything to add, please do so. This helps so much when I see others with similar symptoms!
~Rose PS...I have been taking something called sodium Naproxin for the shoulderblade pain. I took it out of desperation one time, ,and it helped me. I take two tablets, and seems to help quite a bit.
