Nissen Fundoplication Surgery

I just had the surgery 3 weeks ago and was scared too beacuse I read some of the stories but most of them were from 10 years ago. I only found this website when I was looking up post opt. The surgery itself isnt that bad, it was my 1st time in the hospital so it was scary to think about. The worst part was the gas pains in my shoulder and chest the 1st couple of days. After that the main issue was just being tired and the doctor is wanting me to try more solid foods because I am showing signs of being malnurished,being dizzy, lack of energy. Well I had one of those STUCK ISSUES today and it was so not fun. It simply wouldnt go down, I had one other episode witha banana and it did go down. I ended up having to cough it back up somewhat and it was fine. So when they say chew they mean it! It was a very uncomfortable feeling! I was driving and eating so I was not concentrating. Prior to the surgery I basically inhaled my food.

Hellie or Another Day is this stuck incident harmful of my wrap? I got scared that it might have hurt it. It was very painful at the time but after it got out just mild sourness for a while. How fragile are the wraps?? I am told not to throw up because it coudl tear or lift more than 20 lbs now and never more than 50 lbs. I am hoping I woudl know it if it had slipped?? If I went through this surgery for nothing I will just be so upset. The recovery was going great till this incident. I am probably overreacting but it was not fun at all!!

Make sure you get protein in your liquid diet because I wasnt getting enough. This surgery as opposed to alot of survery I found had low risks. Of course there are always risks but for major surgery not as many as I orginally thought. If anyone has questions about the surgery feel free to ask, I am still asking questions about the post opt so cannot help you there much.

Well I was forced to eat solids because I was getting dizzy and weak and my surgeon said I needed to add more solids. I was able to do one meal a day and I am up to 3, 4 weeks post opt. Obviously that one incident was my own stupidity,rushing and eating like I did before, which was inhaling food. I feel alot better now that I am eating more. I had lost 15 lbs and the surgeon said I didnt need to lose anymore because I was not overweight to begin with. The food keeps me going for work now. The 1st week back, my 3rd week was only 3 days because of Thanksgiivng break but it really kicked my butt. I am feeling much better going on my 4th week and other than taking very small bites, I am doing very well. I think we will always have to take our time and chew well. I have to make a concious effort to do so which is why when I wasnt paying attn I got in trouble. I also try not to overeat because I do not want to deal with any nausea. I get full alot faster but it is probably becuase I eat so slow. Thanks for checking in.
