Prilosec not helping

I have been on prilosec for 4 weeks now & still no change, still burning sensation at the top of my shoulder blades & neck, went to the doctors on wednesday & she looked at me as if how can it not be working, I ashed her if having two children so close together at the age of 39 would this have caused the problem with gerd.....she said no I would have had the problem before. But what confuses me i never got the problem till my 2nd pregnancy no heartburn & still dont get the heartburn just the back & neck. over thanksgiving I seem to have a left hand with tingling feeling & pain under my left arm, now my husband even looks at me as if it is all in my mind, I really feel like I am going crazy. I do have a lot of time on my hands, i dont work so maybe I have this on my mind to much in the day & its probably creating more problems like stress related.

I am going to see my GI on the 21st December, hopefully he will have a suggestion for me. I have currently stopped taking prilosec cause if this aint working what is the point of taking them.

Have you considered going to see a chiropractor? I had burning in the back of my neck and down the upper part of my arms. The primary doc put me on prilosec and it never helped. I went to the chiro,after a trip to the ER and one night in the hospital so they could run test (all came out fine) The chiro told me I had a pinched nerve in my neck and that was what was causing my burning. I too thought I was going nuts and people around me had no idea what I was going through.

The chiro has helped me and I havent taken prilosec now for over a month. I dont think I ever even needed it

Just a idea, Hope you find out what is causing this in your own body.

Ok I was 38 when I fell pregnant with my son, I never really had many problems while pregnant exept of a night after eating I would always bring food back up, I would cough & cough till eventually I was sick. When he was born all this went & I felt brilliant. I never put on weight all through the pregnancy actually lost weight, after 2 months went by I was pregnant again with my daughter when I was 5 months pregnant all the sickness of a night came back plus more ect.....burning sensation at the top of the back & throat, I even coughed up blood think it was the strain of all the sickness. When this was mentioned to the doctor she would say its acid reflux & to take tums. She did say once the baby was born she would run test & find the problem if it was not gone once having the baby. After having the baby the burning was still there, at this point I lost 50lb from start to finish with the 2 babies. 2 weeks after the baby was born the doctor suggested I have a lung xray as I was a smoker which came back normal, then she still thought it was acid reflux & put me on prilsec which was no help. She then said could possibly be Gallbladder at this time she said you have had multiple pregnancies 40 you are the right candidate, I had an ultrasound on the gallbladder & liver which came back normal so still no solving the problem. She then sent me for a spine xray for a trapped nerve again normal. Next time I go back to the doctors i see a different doctor who said i think you are getting to stressed about it I will send you for an endoscope just to satisfy your mind even tho I think it will come back normal........well this time it did not come back normal, I had suggested short segmant barretts esophagus which lucky enough came back no barretts just a change in reflux whatever that is supposed to mean also i had inflammation of gastric antrum & incisura of the stomach. When i came around after the endoscope the doctor quickly came in & told me the problem, but I was still in neverland somewhere so I did not take it in & they did not call my husband who was in the waiting room with the kids. All the doctor give me was prilosec 2 times a day. this all has been going on for 10 months now & no change. Yes I do think i am stressing about it & I do think my husband thinks I have it all in my mind. but to be honest who would not stress about it considering all the things you have had done & you are really still none of the wiser. I am sorry this post is long but thought if you heard the whole story as I feel I cant really talk to my husband about this & my thoughts its really nice to have someone to talk to. I really am just hoping this aint pointing to a much bigger problem as the doctor seems to think pregnancies would not have caused this it would have been going on for years, but if thats the case I never had any problems before my 2nd pregnancy.

Thankyou for your reply. I did go to ER this morning because the pain was so bad I could not take it no more. I was emazed how quick I got seen to, if I was still in the UK then I would still be waiting, dont get me wrong I love my country but there health sucks. They gave me a cat scan because the doctor did say never leave it as long as you did if its your left arm because you never know even if you are young as you are 40 lol, I dont feel 40 I feel 70. the outcome of the cat scan was good he said everything is normal apart from your stomach which you already know about. he suggested i go back to my GI and see if they can give me something else. my appointment is 21st December so he prescribed me Zantex till I see the GI.
Hopefully this will work but we will see, at least this has put my mind at rest & I dont have to get as stressed out.

I hope your doctors go well & keep us informed maybe we can tell each other what helps us.

The doctor thinks it could be helicobacter pylori so he is testing me for that. If the test comes back positive then course of strong anitbiotics should do it. If not then I will be having further testing. GREAT!! although I am getting to the stage where I just want to get sorted....

Glad to hear you are getting some respite..

I'm currently living on a diet of Ham Sandwiches in a effort to stop the pain in my stomach. My doctor has suggested that if the sample comes back negative then he wants to do an endoscope. FUN!! How did you find the Endoscope, where you out for it? I think over here they sedate you as apposed to full on aneasthetic.

I live in the UK. The main thing that concerns me with the health care here is that it takes 2 weeks to get test results and I have no idea how long I will have to wait for an Endoscope investigation... It will probably be months, unless I want to pay. :- (

Sorry to hear you are in pain again... I've had my test results back and it's not Helibactor Pilori so I except I'll be having an Endoscopy... not looking forward to that.. (never even had a blood test so this is a big deal for me!)

I have private health insurance thru work so dependant on how long I have to wait NHS I may use the insurance.

I have a friend with GERD and she suffered really badly during her pregnancy, this also concerns me as my husband and I do want to have kids and I don't think I can keep taking PPI while pregnant. 9 months of GERD hell...

We flew to LA last year and a lot of the kids where getting very restless... 16 months is a fun age but not on a plane, wanting to crawl all over the place..
