Ive been on Prilosec for a little over a year. One 20mg pill a day. It worked fine and I had no problems with it. Now I am starting to get instense burn again out of the blue. Ive tried everything. I am now taking 2 prilosec 20mg a day, plus one pill of rantadine throughout the day just to get by. Now I am even drinking some baking soda and water when it gets really bad, on top of the other stuff. The baking soda and water relieves the symptons but only for a while. It is safe to mix all these. Any suggestions? Am I just getting a tolerance to Prilosec? thanks.

Hi there notreason...welcome to healingwell. When it comes to drug interactions, I have a clickable link that you can go to...it is in my signature, and you can see what drugs are safe to mix and not. You can also call your local pharmasist, or even your doctor to find out if what you are doing is safe. You could be developing a tolerance to Prilosec...that is a possibility, and something you should talk to your doctor about . Also, you could use a liquid antacid and see if that offers any relief to you. Please, stick with us, let us know how you are doing, and let us know if you need any other help...we are always here. thanks. liquid antacid huh? Never tried. I only take Tums or pills. Does the liquid antacid work better than the pill antacid?

Hi Notreason:  I think it would be okay to take Prilosec with baking soda because there is a PPI called Zegerid which is Omperazole (which is generic for Prilosec) and it has sodium bicarbonate which is baking soda. What might be happening to you is the Prilosec stopped working and when that happens you just have to switch to another PPI, hence Prevacid, Nexium, Protonix, or Acifex.  Good luck, Barbara...

hey there notreason...I recommend liquid antacids because they often coat your throat and provide relief in that matter. It is worth a try. If you do try it, let me know how it works for you. And yes, often times, a pill will "poop out" on you, and then you have to switch to another one. Might be worth talking to your doc about . Wishing you the best!
