For many years I've had a runny nose (since the fall of 1997 I believe).  It was never a HUGE issue as I just made sure to carry tissues with me.  The occasional tissue in the laundry was a mess though.

It's just clear snot.  Nothing major, just usually enough to wet a tissue.

I've tried so many allergy things - nasal sprays (nasonex, flonase - for years, rhinocort) - allergy pills (allegra, claritin, zyrtec) - antihistamines (benedryl, and another I can't remember) - with out any success.

In December 2004 things changed.  Now all of this mucous seemed to be draining into my stomach at night and I will wake up nauseated enough to vomit.  I started seeing chunks of who-knows-what in what was coming up.  It's green.

The doctors keep blowing me off.  In May 2005 my GI did a scope to ease my mind.  Diagnosis - chronic acute gastritis.  Oxymoronic???  I already take Aciphex (30 min b4 breakfast) for my GERD - so shouldn't that fix the gastritis?

Last night was one of the nights where I woke up at 1:00 am and every 20 minutes there after to vomit whatever has drained into my stomach.  I'm exhausted.  The two nights before I dreamt about vomiting - but only woke up around 5:00 am to do so.

Has anyone else experience this?  Is this runny nose from GERD?  (I can't think it's from allergies after trying all of those things to no avail.)

Chronic, acute gastritis. That is too funny. I think that alone would send me to another Doctor but you do need someone to take this more seriously. It is pretty hard to believe that it is coming back all the way from yout stomach since it has to go thru 2 valves but I think you need to get scoped again.. I wonder if some med you aretaking is making those valves floppy. Hopefully you are not eating chocolate, peppermint or drinking alcohol as those three things can make it floppy. I would be afraid of it aspirating in to you lungs and choking. Perhaps a ENT Doctor would be a helpt to start with this time because of the nose. That just doesn't sound right about the drainage going into stomach and causing this. Good luck

I did change docs after that - that doc and I did not see eye to eye on much.

I have an appt with my PCP next week. I need a referral to a GI for my UC anyway, so if PCP doesn't have any answers, hopefully GI will.

I've tried not drinking tea, not eating chocolate, not drinking alcohol, not eating onions, not eating anything tomato, not eating peppermints, and almost anything else. It just doesn't seem to matter! AY!

Thanks - I sure hope I get some help - those weeks where this happens is hell!

If I was waking up to vomit and it went on more than a day or two, I'd be in a doc's office until someone helped me. You need your rest.

I had a doc who was an absolute jerk. I blamed myself and kept going back. He was rude, his staff was rude, and my whole experience was terrible. Because of their rudeness, my anxiety level went way up, which made everything even worse.

Finally out of desperation I went to an urgent care center where I met another doctor. What a miracle! This person listened to me and answered my questions and got me back on the right track. I gained confidence in my body and was able to cope. Things started improving immediately. The previous jerky doctor only wanted to run more expensive tests and pad his bill. He didn't want to listen or even see me before he decided to do another scope or this or that test.

My point is: trust your gut and switch docs if you're unhappy. If you're worried about being a "doc hopper" ask a trusted friend or relative what they think. Do they think you're valid in switching or do they think you might to deal with some psychological issues? A good friend will be honest and help you come up with a good plan.
