Hi...Im new here.  I was wondering if anybody could help me with some symptoms Ive been having.  It started a few days ago when I was eating (toast and oatmeal). Out of the blue it felt like it lodged in my throat.  I thought it would pass but it hasnt.  I dont have any heartburn but I do have a lot of burping and it feels like a big lump is in my throat.  Also when I eat or drink it feels like theres something in my chest that keeps it from going down.  I dont have a bitter taste in my mouth either.  As I was looking online for answers, GERD was the closest to what Ive been feeling.  If anyone can give me some info I would really appreciate it.  If this has already been posted please excuse me.  Im not real sure how to do this.  Thanks

Jpstjohn I think you should go and see your doctor and have him run some test, to see whats going on with you. I dont think you need to worry too much about GERD your symptoms could be caused by something minor.

Same thing happened to a friend of mine recently, and it just went away after like a week.  I dont know if I would run to the doc just yet unless you are obviously in pain.  It happened to her during a time of VERY HIGH stress.  Are you stressed out?  Its amazing sometimes how our bodies react to stress sometimes.  Good luck.

I'm no doctor but it's possible you have a bit of acid coming back up your "pipe" and irritating your esophagus a little. That can make things feel "funny" when you swallow. I agree that stress can start all this or make it a ton worse. Try making sure you are drinking a lot of water.

The only negative thing about running to the doctor (for me anyway) is that they always want to do a bunch of tests, some of which are uncomfortable and all of which are expensive. I do have good health insurance, but I still don't like to spend the money unless I feel it's absolutely necessary. When doctors want to run tests on me, I get very anxious and imagine all sorts of things which make everything a lot worse. Usually I try to wait a little while to see how I do. Of course, if things get worse and home remedies don't help at all, then it's time to see the doc. But everyone is different and you have to do what you're comfortable with.
