Ranitidine vs Lansoprazole

Hi, I've been to my doctor regarding my gerd getting worse recently, and he prescribed Ranitidine 150g to be taken twice daily.  I already have some Lansoprazole 15mg which I was prescribed some time ago.  I've been taking these 1 a day instead, but it isn't doing much good, should I sack the Lansoprazole off and start taking the Ranitidine, or are they pretty much equivalent ?

Well I have been Protinix which they call a proton pump inhibitor for nearly a year now which helps my symptoms, prior to that I was on the 150 Ranitidine for a while. ZBut my Gastro says if I have breakthrough pain I can still take the 150 Rantidine, and i do and it helps. THe lansorprazole should be stronger, and maybe you just need a diffefent one, best to ask your gastro or doctor and tell them its isnt doing much good, did the ranitidine help at all, maybe like me you may need to take a combo, but definately would ask the doctor, good luck...

I've been to get the Ranitidine today.  Its strange, as last week, I had loads of acid, then 3 days ago I didn't have any acid all day, but then, the past couple of days I've had so much stomach and intestine pain its been a nightmare, I wish it was consistant so I knew what I was doing wrong.  Hopefully it was a side affectof the fastab and changing to ranitidine may help, not sure if I've got some sort of infection further down though, knowing my luck It'll be worms or something lol eyes

Hi Ste,  I'm surprised your dr didn't just prescribe more lansoprazole for you...15 mg is not a heavy doze.  I used to be on 60 mg of lansoprazole a day, two 30 mg tabs a day.   I had alot of acid everyday and then the 60 mg didn't work anymore and my dr switched me to Nexium which worked alot better at the time.  If you can get by using Ranitidine then use that, and watch for side effects that are new.  Your body will tell you whether you can take it or not.  But the pain in your stomach and intestine is something different than acid or heart burn and should be discussed with your doctor.  Most people who have acid reflux do not have pain in the stomach or intestine, just alot of burning unless you have a hiatal hernia and then you could have pain in the stomach.

The doctor now thinks I have a water infection and I'm being treated for that. Regarding the acid, I'm now on 150mg Ranitidine twice a day, which seems better, but still getting reflux and burning sometimes. I will give it another week or so and then see.

My pains have just about gone which is good.  I've not really noticed this before, I seem to be almost holding my stomach in, involuntarily when standing.  If I relax it, I can feel some pressure and discomfort and if inhale to try and inflate it, I just can't as the pain is too much.  If I sit, there is a slight improvement, and if I lie down, I am fine.  My anxiety over the past 24 hours has really hightened for no particular reason, feeling really confused and frustrated that I can't seem to get healthy :(
