For those who have experienced hiatal hernia, how quickly did the pain come on when you first felt it?

I had quite a large one. Nobody knew I had one until they operated on me (Nissen). So there was no pain felt by me.

Ive got a moderate size one, but the dr doesnt seemed to concerned about it, more about the gerds and gastroparesis he carres about. SO im guessing most hiatel hernias are no big deal, and people dont feel anything, according to my dr.

My doctor has totally dismissed my hiatel hernia as no big deal.  He seems to think it's nothing to be concerned about, although since my GERD is so bad and I seem to have gastritis often I wonder if there's a connection.  My doctor says no though.  sad

My Gastro feels ther is know connection either

and some people never no the have a haital hernia unless they are going in for other procedures.

I wfell kind overlooked too sad

My surgeon said that a Hiatal Hernia was a big deal as it contributed to GERD. I have had mine sewn up and am hoping it stays there! :-)

Bo peep have you seen any diffence in your symptoms since it has been sewed up.

I wish i had your doctor, maybe playing mine off as  not big deal, I dont like the fact that my esohagaus is going through my diaphram, i cant only certain foods, due to gastorparesis( slow emepeting of the stomach but he says hernia not playing a part and refuses to sew it, it moderate in size.

Yes I have definitely seen a huge difference! My stomach is not pushing up through my diaphragm anymore and squashing other organs or getting squashed! It still feels a bit peculiar especially at night in bed because I can feel a slight pull inside. I guess that will pass in time as I only had it done 3 weeks ago! I'm not sure it will help with the gastorparesis but surely having a Hernia is not normal so it may help. I am still in the recovery stage but I am hopeful that this has worked for me as I am feeling better each day.

i had the surgery to repair mine . that was several years ago. im having trouble again but no gerd. just the swelling and discomfort . i was told mine lasted longer than anyone else they had heard of. surgery that is i was also told they cant do it again . that was by te family dr. im going to see the dr. that did the surgery and see what he says. good luck to all of you. i know what youree going thru
