I'm 24 year old male. I believe I too have LPR. I have most of the symptoms, no heartburn or anything though. I finally saw a GI doc and she was very nice. She sat down and talked to me and wrote down what I had to say and first thing she said after that was "I am going to perform an Endo on you because you said you've had acid problems since you were young so I want to make sure nothing has happened to your esophagus from the acid. I hope everything comes up negative or nothing serious. I have anxiety problem too lately, and something too serious will make things worse for me. Already bothered to read that it can lead to esophagus cancer......although, they said, it takes YEARS and a SEVERE symptoms to have somethng that serious.
I have to set up my Endo appt and like I said, I'm worried. Even though she said it's nothing to worry about, just takes 30 mins and I'll be asleep.
I'm not worried about the procedure, as much as I'm worried about the result. Doc says its nothing to worry about, and MOST people DO NOT need surgery, but a few do. She said, using PPI for a few weeks will help and I will have to continue it for the rest of my life. Which I can deal with.
Anyone who's been diagnosed w/ LPR, please give your feedback. How long have you had the symptoms until you saw the GI? How serious was it? Have you woke up in the middle of the night from it? Did you need surgery? Are you living well w/ it now?
