Hi everyone. I have had GERD for 18 years. I took one PPI everyday with no further difficulties for about 15 years. Now two PPI and a acid reducer at bedtime and I still have symptoms. My doctor sent me to a surgeon and a gastroenterologist and I have had all the test. I have a tear in my diaphragm, a hiatal hernia, and a small amount of barrett's, and no esophageal sphincter. I have one more appointment with the surgeon on the sixteenth, but I started having chest pain since I had my endoscopy. The chest pain worsen after I was almost standing on my head cleaning the refrigerator two days ago. It feels like my hernia has moved farther into my chest. I don't know if I should call the surgeon or just wait it out until the sixteenth. Well thanks for listening. Amo

   I could not believe my eyes when i read your post about cleaning the refrigerator. I did the same thing about two months ago. It scared the daylights out of me. The pain was so intense across my chest I thought for sure I was having a major heart attack and I am not exaggerating at all. However like so many people who think they might be having a heart attack, I thought i would just sit and see what happened for a bit....LOL  The pain lasted about twenty minutes...way too long if had been having heart attack....and then it was gone. In the back of mind I kept telling myself it was my acid relux or my hiatal hernia, but I also thought I should call an ambulance !!! Before I was diagnosed with Gerd I never understood how people with heartburn felt ....now I do and I really do feel bad for all of us. It hurts and its scary. Does anyone else feel like stress really brings it on or caused it to surface in the first place ??

 Amo, if it really bothering you call your gi doc and see what they think. I know its hard to wait and to worry at the same time. God bless you. by the way, I am from south dakota...where are you from ?? take care

Hi, I am 46 and am from missouri. How long have you had GERD? My chest pain is a little better, I really have a feeling its my hernia. Are you considering surgery for your GERD. I read the other postings and I am really scared about the recovery, but I feel like I have no other choice it is starting to interfere with every aspect of my life. I do have a stressful life but I never have read or herd the Doctors say anything about stress, but stress is hard on your body, that's for sure. Nice to here from you.

I am 45 and the divorced mom of two ...one in college and the other a senior in high school ...where does the time go ???

I was considering the surgery for sure, but my gio doc insisted on the manomentry test to see how well I swallowed. I failed miserably,,,,,,,no surgery for me....if I cant swallow great now he was no way going to take the chance that I would swallow worse later on after the surgery. I am grateful for his wisdom !! I also have read the posts and yea , I think it sounds awful too. I do know that the success rate of the surgery is high, but the recovery...wow, the folks here have had to be so strong...God bless them all.

I do know that I need to lose a few pounds around my middle, the only place I have weight gain at all, frustrating.....I feel that the extra pounds around my middle make my reflux ten times worse...how do you feel about this ??

I am sorry you failed the manomentry test, wasn't that test awful? Yes, I could lose a little in the middle also. I think it probably makes
GERD worse to have a few extra pounds but I don't think it would make it go away. My children are 26,23, and 13 surprise! Ha Ha.

Does your GERD seem to be under control with your meds? Sometimes I think why do I have to have GERD, no one else in the family has it, but there could be a lot worse diseases to have. Take care!

Welcome to HealingWell and I am sorry we have to meet here.  I feel you should call your surgeon if you continue to have the sx you have described.  You will feel better knowing you have talked with a professional.

Heartburn can mimic a cardiac event until you once know what it feels like. I used to get heartburn so bad at work that it went up into my jaw and down my arms.  I would sit down and breathe, take my antacid and if that helped then I knew it would be ok.

Hope you get some relief from your sx.  Take care and again welcome.
