endoscopy looks good, but still can't swallow solids (???)

Well, i had my endoscopy today and she found my esophagus looks in great shape, and did not dilate.
so, a barium swallow is now on target for tomorrow morning at 7:30am.
diagnosis so far: "mildly spastic esophagus".
my swallowing still doesn't work though, and the pressure in head and neck is better today, but still can tell something's wrong, and can still tell that i took a zantac, as the "hardened" or "stiff" sensation is still there..
tried to swallow a little bit of spaghetti tonight, and a little bit of it's still stuck, it's that or a little bit of peach. driving me nuts.
i guess absolutely no solids till this gets figured out.
does anyone have an answer why the swallowing mechanism goes away, if the esophagus "looks" healthy???
i wonder if the cervical spine spurs have messed up the nerves going to the esophagus??????

Moresha, a friend of mines was having the same problem with her throat and her doctor "stretched" it and all her syntoms went away. 

I was also experiencing problems with my throat while taking Prisolec for my acid reflux.  The 1st 2 weeks was wonderful, but on the 3rd week, I started getting weird synthoms like my throat was closing or something was stuck there.  I was also having a problem swallowing.  Aside from this, my ears started hurting and the top part of my head was feeling very sensitive to touch, so I stopped taking the medicine.  Those synthoms went away almost immediately, but I started having problems eating - I had developed gastritis.  So what now?  I remember two people talking about developing IBS after they had their gall bladder taken out, and I had mine taken out in 2006, so I took pills for IBS and all the gas problems went away. Today I'm feeling so much better. 

Check the medicine you're taking and if you're having gas problems, have your doctor check you for IBS.  Hope you feel better soon.

ended up in ER from spasms right before the swallow study. bad day.
spasms in face, neck and head so bad they had to about knock me out. my husband was sick in a fever when he took me, bless his heart.
his fever finally broke last night we think, hopefully he's on mend.

but that night before the ER visit, i'd gotten a tiny bit of food stuck in throat and tried to clear it with finger.
when i did, i touched the back of my neck, i guess where the cervical spine spurs are, and spasms began. never felt so much trauma in my life.

so - after they settled it down with dilaudid and other meds intravenously, they did the barium swallow ... but, i was on all those meds, and also, i could've told them i can swallow liquids.. so ... (???) i think i need a swallow STUDY of all types of food, for them to be there to get it out of it does not go down the right way.

right now i'm taking .125 (half of lowest dose of Xanax) once a day for nerve settlement as my throat, back and neck and still hurting and spasming, and my toprol xl and evista, that's it, and drinking my nutrition, of course. taking pills with peaches or thick drink or yogurt. i'm thankful for soup that has no bits in it at all. getting kind of weak. may try baby food today, water it down or use milk, etc.

headed back to family doctor this afternoon. ER doctor gave them down-the-road that somebody's gotta get their arms around helping me, and coordinate this thing, instead of passing me around from dr. to dr. without big-time communication and coordination.

have gone to two family doctors, (who i like) gastro doctor (who i like, and yes, i'm thankful that endoscopy was clear!), ENT, (new guy on the scene who seems ok, but young) and Neuro-surgeon with a strange attitude, who i think he and i both agree we'd be at eachother's throat, literally, if we had to deal with eachother.
but i can learn something from him, too, as he pointed the way toward swallow studies. and that might be where i'll head to, at maybe Vanderbilt Med. Center.

okay, over and out for now. really have been thinking of you all in my prayers.
