Just a quick Question for ya all...

How long after surgery did you go back to work?

My Dr told me 4-6 weeks and I work as a waitress / Bar person (not allowed to bend for 6 weeks!)
My father who had the op 3/4 years ago was told 3-6 months He's a REV and If his job was manual then it would've been 6 months.

I'm just curious :)

Dear Rangel

I suspect it was like any medicine over the years things have changed.  Many surgeries are done with scopes and you go home first day.  Moms have babies and go home same day. I think they have found that patients heal faster when allowed to be up and around and their get their strength back.  I would certainly follow your Drs. orders.

I went back to work 1/2 time at 6 weeks and full time at 8 weeks; I have lifting restrictions for 6 months (nothing over 5 pounds for the first 6 weeks, then 10 pounds until 10 weeks then 15 pounds until the 6 month point. It's designed to protect the abdominal muscles from rupture after the surgery and to protect the wrap; if you're stressing the abs, you're stressing the wrap, so be careful!

John (my same day surgery buddy) went back to work at 3 weeks and at 4 months he is still very tired; it may be because he went back to soon. My Dr. keeps reminding me that just because it's a lap doesn't mean this is easy...this is major, major surgery!

I guess it depends on the type of your job. I wasn't given any instructions about lifting or bending, although I have been careful. I had my surgery on Oct. 30, 2008. Did you have yours on halloween? From your other post my chest and back also hurts, thats why I refilled my prescreption pain med. so I could sleep at night. I had my first outing today going to walmart and my back is killing me. I wil go back to work on Monday, I work in the office with my husband at our tool and die shop. I know I am rambline on, but do you haft to sleep on your back all night Rangel? I have been trying to go to my side a little but I still cant. Heal well and nice to here from you.

Amo, I slept on my back for approx the first 3 days...In hosp i had the bed on a slight tilt ( the bile pipe was too far in to lay on my side or even sit up! so on my back was the only way)but since coming home i've more or less been on my side but wake in the morning with the worst back ache ever......I've tried laying on my back aat home but no change..... I also tried to lie on my front, which used to be the way id settle to sleep..but can only manage it for 10 mins max. The only time i'm 80% comfy is in the recliner chair n the sitting room!! lol

Kitt, they say the more positive you are the speedier the recovery! I'm actually looking forward to going back to my job..but not going to rush back or i'll be back to square 1!
