The first time I experimented GERD, I think that I have been a heart attack!!

Hi.

Mi name is Miguel, Im spanish, sorry about my english.

I want to know if anybody of you felt when you have GERD something similar a heart attack!!, I was very afraid the first time, and everytime I have GERD im afraid also, because is very terrible sensation and its very similar at a heart attack, sometimes I feel like my heart was to catch by an invisible hand or something like that, Does anybody feels the same?.

Seymour, I ended up in the ER because I thought I was having a heart attack. It is important to have any chest pain evaluated for cardiac problems. Carol

Hi Miguel,

I had heart attack symptoms including a borderline abnormal ekg. I went to the Emergency Room, they put me into the cardiac unit, called in a cardiologist who ran every kind of test you can think up. Blood work showed no cardiac enzymes. All heart tests came back normal except for the ekg (which continues to off 4 years later).

I was then sent to a stomach specialist, who ran all kinds of tests. Tests came back with gastritis, hital hernia and probable GERD. So, yes GERD can mimic heart attack. With time you will learn the difference. Although, like Camagu said, you should always get chest pain evaluated. I continue to see the cardiologist .
