Hi all-
Well we did find the young lady we needed for the team. We actually asked her to come back from Monday's tryout so we could get another look at her and maybe she wouldn't be so nervous. She is also a catcher and we lost our third catcher earlier this year.

Denise, When you get all done you aren't going to want to move! Well, maybe you will.

Barb, I am so sorry it split open. I had that happen once and it is not a good feeling. They used Dermabond this last surgery and it worked great. It was kinda stretchy. I thought it would be more like super glue and be hard to the touch. Maybe then can still use that and then add the steri strips for more strength.
Oh, I have gotten the itching under control. I started using Benedryll similar to ewhen I was in the hospital. 1 pill every 3 hours seems to do it.
Talked to my doctor again today and he wants me to start taking the Tramadol every 8 hours and wait a couple days to see what happens. The pain is getting worse and radiating all the way around again. It hasn't been this bad for almost a year. Looks like I won't be back to work this week. Oh well, guess I have to remember not to rush things. It is really frustrating because my stomach is finally feeling great after 3 years and then this came back. What can you do.

Denise, I won't over do cleaning. I need to clean off counters, tables and such first off. It's long over due. Too much clutter. I only live 10 minutes from work. I wouldn't trade that for any thing. My other job is 20 minutes. Off to do my stretches now. Have a great night. Barb

Hey Bill that is great news about your new player. Sorry about all the other troubles with your health. At least you have people here that understand what your going through. That always seems to help me any way. I will ask about the dermabond. I am going to threaten to pour glue in it. Lol. I don't know if my doctor would give in to threats. tongue Hey I'm at the point I'll try almost any thing. I think I'm starting to lose it. When I came up the steps tonight and said ouch my husband asked is it your hand and I started laughing and said no it's my knee this time. He said why are you laughing it's actually kind of sad that your in this much pain at your age. I told him it was so ridiculous that it's always a different pain that it is to the point of being funny to me. Better to laugh than cry. Now I really am off to do my back stretches. Have a good night and I hope you can sleep tonight too. Barb

Hi Bill,
Glad you found someone for your team! If we can't get a reasonable amount for our house, we will stay here for a while. It is great to have it all clean, painted, and landscaped!

I'm retiring after this year, so the long commute isn't permanent. I've got lots of friends and relatives in this area, so I will always have someplace to stay during snowy times. We'll probably have to find an apartment somewhere for a while. I'm just hoping it sells right away, so we know what we're doing, and can move forward.

Oops Barb, I posted to your thread and now I see no swimming.......I am so sorry.  I do understand the open wound frustration as I shared with you in your thread.

Yup, people are coming to visit to see you but I am like you, I like to have the house cleaned up.  I have a great hubby who does all the vacumning when my back is bothering me.  Enjoy your visit.  :)

Denise,  what a great son you have and with all the work you have been doing I suspect your house is a shining beacon that will attrack many people. I wish you the best and lots of luck with your open house.

I know your commute may be a bit longer with your move however as long as you know it is time limited with your retirement coming down the road it will work out for you I am sure.

Yes my daughter is "Crazy Busy" everyday.  She runs her own business and works very hard, sometimes I feel to hard but she thrives on hard work. Raising and showing Dobermans and Boston Terriers also helps to keep her "Crazy Busy" as well as the two teenager daughters.  smhair

Bill,  so glad to hear you chose a new team member..........and I was just going to drive on down and try out........... tongue   turn   tongue    Oh, you did say young, experienced and could catch a ball were qualifications, guess I will sit in the bleachers and just eat popcorn and cheer your team on.

Well, we're doing our best to make our house look as good as it can possibly look. We couldn't keep up this pace forever! Jack is outside now planting some more grass seed...we just had a dumpster taken away with all the junk we had to get rid of (mostly from our barn--and a lot of it that was here before we moved) that was not salvageable. I don't like to throw away anything that could be reused, but this stuff was unusable. My parents lived here before us, so there was lots of stuff!!!

I've got some cleaning and planting to do today. I'll tell you, if I wasn't a teacher, and Jack wasn't laid off, we could never have done the things we've done. It has been a full time job. Hopefully it'll pay off. Our realtor thinks outside the box, and took flyers to all the businesses in both ours and a nearby town, as well as distributing it to neighbors. Our open house is on Sunday. At the Realtor's open on Wednesday, she's serving lunch. That's how she gets people to come to her opens.

It's not that I don't love this place. I do. It's over six acres, on a wooded lot, next to a stream. It's beautiful and private. (What a change to move to a townhouse!) It's a lot of yard work, though, and my husband doesn't love it. Some guys do, but he just doesn't. We're getting older, and we figured we'd bypass moving to another smaller house, and go right to the townhouse. (We don't want to have to move again!) We really like the new area we're going, but wouldn't make the move just because we like the area--we like the people living there--our sons!

I just want to get it sold, now that we've made the decision. Then we'll have the money for the townhouse, which would eliminate the need for a contingency--thus allowing the special additions we want added while it is being built. Keep your fingers crossed! turn

Bill, I was going to come  with kitt to the bleachers and cheer, cuz as your qualifications states (LOL) I am unqualified and decided the paint on the bleachers need new shinning fro our bottoms lol

They're greatly appreciated. It's a little nerve-wracking waiting to see what happens. The place is almost done--just windows to wash, touch up paint, and a few last minute cleaning jobs. Our realtor just called and someone wants to look at it tomorrow afternoon, so we'll have to get out of the house for a couple hours.

Bill...good luck with your new team member. Catcher is a tough position--literally! It's got to hurt to squat down like that! I hope she works out great for your team. How's your rib? I'm so sorry you're still struggling with that. I know it's really frustrating. Your friends here are with you--sending you good wishes and healing thoughts. yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

Bea...I think it's a win-win for our family. We'll be there for our kids when they need us (babysitting, etc.) and they'll be there for us when we need them. The nice thing is that it's only about an hour from here, so we can still easily maintain our old friendships (and doctors!).

Dear Bill, sighh, I don't know, we may just have to shoot you, and Barb too! (of course, I would have to be shot as well....it may be an option LOL!!!) I'm glad you got your player, and a catcher too!, I was a catcher for years until I blew my knees out! I'm sorry about the rib pain, Ultram only works kinda okay for me, unless I double up on it, but then it knocks me out. I hope it helps you, I really do!

Barb, if the Dr. won't glue, do you have some of the steri-strips? I got my own and to put on the biopsy because it kept opening up and it really helped me; although your hand is a much more active area...anyway, I hope it helps. I'm sorry about the wrist too, go ahead and scream! You're entitled!

Bea, during our youngest sons junior year in football, he had hurt his back; his baseball coach, knowing about Kellens back, didn't want to aggravate it any further but still wanted Kellen on the team, so his position for most of the year.....center pine! LOL, I kid you not!!

Well, if I could make the emoticons work, I'd send cheerleaders, house-selling dancers, hand healing smiles and laughing at myself goofballs, but since I can't..oh well!!

Hey Janice, you made me and my hubby laugh with that one. Yes this is one of those times you think some one should just shoot you and get it over with. Lol. tongue I will have to check and see If I can get some other wise I will use the butter fly bandaids and put something over the top of that rather than go through What I did today with the smart #@*&%# nurse. You can check that continuing saga out in the carpal thread. I hope you are doing a bit better than the rest of us. :-) Barb

Well, actually Barb, no I'm not! People keep saying...is there anything I can do and I say YES!, shoot me!! and then they don't!! I mean, what kind of friend is that? Seriously, what's a lifetime in prison between friends? You too? yeah, I don't get it either :)

I bought my own steri-strips and that is what did the trick; the ones that they put on, just fell off but the ones I purchased were wider and held better...good luck girl!!!

Dang Janice, I was hoping to hear you were doing better. shakehead Some friends ha! Well at least we can share our misery with each other. When I saw the doc monday night I told him at least my phlebitis was better in my leg and he said I thought you looked familiar and he laughed and said that was great. Well one of these days things have to get better even a little bit I'll take. I told him I'll take any improvement I can get in my health. I am always the eternal optimist. Hang in there I'm rootin for you. yeah Thanks for the idea about getting my own steri strips. Did you get them at the drug store? Barb

Howdy everyone-
Well I sure am glad I'm not a horse. I'd been shot along time ago. My improvement was short lived. For some reason now the pain is going up through my shoulder blade area and into my shoulder now. Really feels like right after surgery and the pain from having all that gas is your belly. But of course it didn't just stop there, it had to travel up into my neck also. I really have no idea why this is going on. I haven't done anything that would irritate it. No throwing, no batting, no working, and haven't lifted anything over 10 pounds either. This is actually the worse it had been since right after I had the lung surgery. I am supposed to call my doctor this morning and see what he wants to do.
I have found something to at least keep my mind busy though. The laptop I won my daughter wasn't what it was listed as, so I wanted to get her a faster one. Well, then one of my other softball players said she wanted one also. S the ebay hunt began. I managed to win 2 identical ones that are in really great shape and has some speed. So yesterday I set out to get them loaded up and ready for them. Of course the laptops got here before the power adapters and I had to "borrow" my son's to power them up. One didn't have a hard drive so I went on the scavenger hunt through my old computer stuff. Wow, I didn't realize how much of a pack rat I really am! Anyhow, I found an extra hard drive and spent all night loading XP and getting all the updates for them. Now I am commencing on putting one together for Michelle too. She said she would like to sit in the living room and surf the net.
Well gotta run, the laptop os beeping at me. Must need to be restrated or something.

So that's where you've been Bill. Glad you found something to keep your mind busy any way. I know how hard it is too be restricted from doing so many of your every day activities. Hi all-
Well, Doc took me off work the rest of this week and will reevaluate Friday. For some reason the injections aren't working at all. Actually things seem to be getting worse. Apparently these nerves must be similar to the nerves that cause all the shoulder pain after surgery. It starts at the scar on my back and goes around the ribs and also up to my shoulder. Sure does feel wonderful! I thought I was having an issue with the wrap because of the similar shoulder pain. He doesn't think it is. I had to call Aetna again and start a claim, again. That takes forever to do.
The only thing I have found to ease it up is to play my acoustic guitar or a heating pad. The vibrations from the guitar body must help in some way or it just the positioning of my arm while I play. So I have spent a lot of nights on the couch just strumming away until my fingers can't take it anymore. It has let me experiment with some different picking and strumming patterns though.
We start our softball practice again this week. That is going to be rough. I have to atleast be there, but won't be able to do much. Michelle will kick my butt if I do.
Anyway, hope everyone is doing well!

Michelle better kick your butt if you even TRY to do something that might hurt you! So sorry you're having more pain. What a bummer. You've got to be ready to spit nails and throw battleships. (is that the saying? My mom used to use a saying something like that.) In other words you must be really &%$@@#*!

There's no doubt you need to spend some more time out of work getting yourself whole and healthy. I know you're ready to go back, but try to be patient. Keep that positive attitude of yours handy--you're going to need it. Have you ever considered getting a second opinion on that rib/shoulder/neck pain? You don't seem to have gotten much relief. Maybe another doc would give it a look, and come to a different conclusion and approach.

Hope you find relief soon, Bill. Good luck with your softball game!

Man Bill, you can't seem to catch a break lately. At least the guitar and the heat helps. I use a lot of heat my self. Maybe you can get some of those heat wraps to take with you to use during the softball practice and games. Well I have to run. Barb

Hi everyone! and welcome back (at least to me!!) We had a wonderfully relaxing time at the cottage, but boy have you all been busy.

Bill, have they thought about Neurontin for nerve pain? I need about 400 mg a night (not strong by a lot of standards, but it is for me) Anyway, it does seem to work. (Since no one will shoot you either, I thought I'd give you a constructive suggestion!!!!!) Seriously, no really, seriously....your body has been through a tremendous amount of trauma, and it may be acting out like a child does when it has had enough...in other words, a temper tantrum...but in your case, the tantrum is coming out as pain. My body does this ...a lot.... they believe this is one of the triggers for fibromyalgia...trauma, stress, etc. Anyway, when this happens for me (not the fibro part, the tantrum part...) I increase the neurontin and it calms it down. Like I said, just a constructive suggestion, rather than a shoot me, shoot me now, suggestion!

Barb, like you, I'm very attached to my heating pad; as matter of fact, I may have to have more surgery one day....amputation from from my heating pad LOL!!! Since you already have fibro though Barb, I think we'll have to stay with the shoot me, shoot me now part with you!! LOL!! How is the incision? I did get the steri strips at the medical supply shop in town, they had a much better supply than at my local pharmacy; have you gotten any yet????

Aw Bill shucks.............man that Barb is funny.  She said you " can't seem to catch a break lately" which made me think of your softball team devil

I am truly sorry your in so much pain.  I have read of people having good results using Lyrica for nerve pain and the dose seems dependent on the person but 225 mg twice a day is the number I remember.

I agree that  Neurontin is a good med for many but I was accidently overdosed on it thanks to my physician ordering the wrong dose and I did an overnight in the hospital. 

I would  take it easy at your softball game or Michele will have your hide.  I am sure you are very tired of all the issues going on but knowing you I know you will keep your sense of humor and as always you are finding the silver lining in the clouds even on a rainy day.

Janice so glad you had a nice time at the cottage. Are you feeling any better? I sure hope so. I'm not so sure I have fibro it may have just been low vitamin D or my other doc just didn't know what to call it at the time. I've met others with it and mine is nothing like that. I had horrible shoulder pain in the left one to the point I couldn't use my arm. Can you get fibro in just one part like that? I do use my heating pad mostly on my back though. My body loves the heat. I got some butter fly ones and then covered with a gauze pad held in place with stretchy gauze. Works pretty good. My incision looks like it split a little more. I put a little more essential oil on it because it was so dry it hurt and felt like it was going to rip apart. It just looks like a big dry skin crack so I don't see where the oil would hurt at all. I know I love her name too. It really fits her too. Just a few more weeks and I'll be holding her and her 2 little brothers in my arms. Caleb will be the new little guys name. Barb

Glad to see you are back with us. My doctor does have me on Neurontin. I take 300mg 3x a day. I have been taking it since about Feb. of '08. I wasn't taking it while I was in the hospital tough. After the nerve started in again I went back on it. It doesn't seem to help anymore though. My insurance won't pay for anything else because it isn't Diabetes related. If things don't improve by Friday I am supposed to go see him.
Today was a little better, but I had the heating pad on it most of the day. Hopefully it eases up by Friday.

Denise, I have seen 2 other doctors about this in the last year and they all came up with the same conclusion. Even the anesthesiologist who did the epidural a week before I had the redo said the root injections would be better. Maybe one more set will do it. I am sure if it isn't better by Friday he will suggest doing another set.

Barb, Wow, sorry that it isn't healing very fast. I think you might be right to keep it moist. Seems it would split easier if it got too dry.

Hey Bill, sorry your ribs are still bugging you. I hope they find a something to help get rid of it. I'll be praying for you. I tried to go with out putting the oil on my crack and it was so dry it felt like it was going to rip apart. It feels so much better with the oil and it looks better today too. I was going to leave the strips off it but decided it was better to keep them on to hold it in place. I went and got some more of the butter fly strips today. They work much better than the stirps they put on and I can see how it's doing through the opening over the wound. Barb
