Back Again... H.Pylori Question

HI Everyone~

Well, thought I was on a road to recovery. We had a game plan and I was ready. Well... if you recall during my BRAVO test they did biopsies and found 3 ulcers, gastritis and the H.Pylori bacteria. After 2 weeks on the PrevPac and waiting a few weeks to get the PPI's out of my system to get a correct reading on the test.... I STILL have the Pylori. So I pick up my new rx tomorrow and begin another 2 weeks of meds... not sure exactly what, but the dr said I would be on 3 antibiotics a ppi and zantac 4 times a day. This would explain why my stomach and I have not been getting a long... i have felt bloated and sharp pains in my stomach.

Just wondering if anyone had H.Pylori after being on the PrevPac... Could this be a sign of something else going on? My dr. did not seem too phased about me still having the bacteria.

Ouch!!! I'd think I'd go nuts on all that medication. I hope I never have H. Pylori, I'd never make it... I'm allergic to almost all the antibiotics out there. Penicillin, Sulfer drugs, myacins, cyclines. My doctor says there's one more out there he hadn't tried on me, but he wants to save it as last resort when I'm very ill.

I hope this round works for you.

Hi Jodee,
Sorry to hear you're still having trouble. Sometimes it takes more than one course of antibiotics to knock out a deep seated infection. I haven't had H. Pylori (at least as far as I know), but I'm sure there are some members who have and who will give you some information and support.

I haven't been online much lately, as we're fixing our house up to put on the market. You mentioned that you thought you had things figured out...did you decide to go forward with the surgery, or are you going a different route? Hope you get straightened around soon!

Joy~ Got all my meds now... 5 in all... this will be a long 2 weeks, but gotta do what I gotta do to get better :)

Denise~ I saw the surgeon who had me to a BRAVO test... The surgeon refused to even talk to me about my test results she ordered for me when they came back. I ended up with 3 ulcers, gasteritis and H. Pylori.  She refered me to another GI dr. After seeing the new GI dr, she determined I have LPR and put me on 4 months of Zantac. Said surgery would not help me. I asked why I had much reflux to the thoratic level if everything was fine (my normal LES), she had no answer for me... which I find hard to believe. I have different thoughts and am in the process of getting another opinion now that I have all my medical records/tests related to what ever is going on. 

I never even started the Zantac b/c I had to be re tested for H. Pylori... and because I still have the bacteria, I am on a different treatment plan for it. So my journey with this continues...

Good luck getting yor house ready and getting it sold!! I know it can be exciting and stressful at the same time.

I've took the Prev-pak Twice and i still have heartburn I'm thinking of taking the test again but the cost without Insurance is High I wish I lived in Canada lol H.pylori SUCKS I tested positive with a High count . :( It worries me sometimes because it didnt Phase the Doctor which i dont think is normal so i can totally understand where your coming from .

Hi Jodee,

I was diagnosed with H Pylori but I was on the quad, its 2 antibiotics, the ppi and pepto bismal. Its the best effective for H pylori and pretty much standard here in NY.Check an see wit ya doc.I am cured  from it good luck

It sounds like another opinion is in order. Sorry you're dealing with so much. It would be great if you could find a GI doc you could communicate with easily. I fired my first GI doc, because he didn't listen to me, and had preconceived opinions. He was no help.

My new GI doc actually sits and really listens to what I have to say. He has a much more open mind. I'm happy I switched.

Good luck with getting to the bottom of what's causing your problems.
