I just got a prescription for Aciphex after trying everything else. I've been taking Nexium for the past week and all my symptoms were getting worse but had new ones also like edem in my legs and ankles and headaches. I've read alot of success stories with Nexium on here so I'm wondering how Aciphex is and any side effects it may cause.

I'm really hoping this med works. I would prefer not to have surgery but I don't want to take pills either.

My son takes Achiphex and doesn't have any issues with it, It seems to work very well for him. I was on it for a month after my Nissen redo in May and I didn't notice any side effects with it. Also, a friend at work has been using it for a few years now and tells me it is the only one that works for him.

Has your doctor mentioned surgery to you yet?

I was on acidphex after tryning everything from pepcid to nexium. It worked for a very long while but eventually I got the surgery. Good luck

He has not mentioned surgery yet. I have an appt with him on the 19th. Can you get the surgery right away or do they want you to try meds first? I'm not sure what the guidelines are with that. This is my second day with the Aciphex and I see no difference. All my symptoms seem to be in full force around 7pm no matter what I do or eat. I can't stand the swelling in my throat (feels like strep but not sore) and the pain in my chest. I have 3 kids under the age of 5 so it's hard to take care of them and deal with this at the same time.

funyn story aciphex caused me to have a near heart attack so i wasn't one of the lucky ones..:/

Most doctors want to run the basic tests first before surgery:

Barium swallows, Stomach emptying, Upper GI scope, BRAVO, and sometimes momoetry

The surgery that has the least recovery time is the esophyx surgery. Overnight or shorter stay, liquid diet for a week, and soft foods for a month. Plus no tummy stitches! smilewinkgrin

However you must make sure your surgeon is very experienced in doing the esophyx, otherwise you can have troubles.

I've had them all except for the BRAVO. I'll have to ask him what his plan of action is when I go in next. I can't imagine living like this much longer. I can barely eat or drink anything, can't sleep. I'm not sure if he does those surgeries but I do know he does one for Barretts.

I am currently taking aciphex and am having no problems with it so far. I am taking 40mg twice a day(yes, this is a high dose from what I have heard). Sounds like you have gotten a lot of good info here already...

No U cant just get the surgery.It must show on paper that they tried every means necessary to avoid surgery for you.Surgery is the last option.
