Scheduled for Gallbladder Surgery Monday

Hey there, I am guessing you are having the Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy ?

I really do not understand why your Doctor is being so difficult about this....................making you sign a form, argh.

All op permit forms come with a clause that say the surgery may not be successful so why the big fuss?

If he does not feel he should do it then he should refer you to someone  else.

I am sure you will do well and if it gets you relief then you will be better off without the gall bladder. Take care and I will be cheering you on.

I'd say your results were right, with the symptoms you have. Once it is gone tings should be better in a hurry. I am very happy mine is gone. It is an ease surgery to recover from. Just need to rest a couple weeks and resume slowly. You will do great !

I am sorry to hear you were awake in the middle of the night with pain.  Do you have any pain medication? 

I am assuming that you are still a go for Monday and with all the opinions in and the tests done please try to just know you have made your choice and don't keep second guessing yourself.

I had my gallbladder out years ago and all sx related to the gallbladder went away after I healed.

I had the surgery and it was the answer to my prayers. You'll do fine and all should be great after you heal.

I took a little extra time of work because my job is very pyhsical.

I am sorry my sentences are spaced so much, I am sure I hit a button that I need to figure out again, LOL

The doctor told me the surgery went well, unfortunately I had a violent reaction to the anthesia and started thrashing very hard on the recovery, and tore up a lot of good work, so I am writing this from a hospital bed........I should have gone home today, So I can't really say if the gallbladder removal worked. I was told it took five people to restrain me. I am very sore, I think I strained every muscle in my body. I had to go back into OR to repair a rupture suture.

I am so sorry to hear you had a reaction to the anesthesia but glad they kept you in the hospital to make sure all is ok before turning you loose.

We are all here to support you and hope by now you may be home resting in the comfort of your own home.

I suspect your surgery was a success and the reaction was just that, a reaction and will not harm your outcome.

When I had my gall bladder yanked out, I had some strange digestive issues for a while after surgery. In fact to be honest they never have completely gone away, and I was told before hand that such things may happen. Things got better over time, for sure, but the gall bladder is something we're supposed to have if it's working the way it should. If you don't have it, there are things you have to live with. It'll take the body a couple months to adjust, or at least that's my experience. Then things will start getting better.

I was also told that some people do not have "digestive issues" after a few months, so hopefully you're one of those lucky ones.

But if you're not you may have to be pretty careful about eating fatty foods in particular from now on. For example, I can't go on a road trip and eat a greasy burger and expect not to have to stop once or twice down the road. Also, I have found that going without eating for a long time will give me trouble when I do finally eat, whether the meal was fatty or not. So I stick with smaller, more frequent meals or I just deal with what happens. It's not horrible or anything...more of an inconvenience I guess.

Since this is the GERD forum I should also say that having the gall bladder out didn't do much for my acid reflux problems. Your mileage may vary.

Sorry to hear about your reaction to the anesthesia. Sounds like they're looking after you pretty well, though.

Questran and Cholestid..those are to reduce cholesterol correct?
I just had my GB removed 6 days ago.
I have not eatenuch since, soup, Graham crackers, that is about it
I still have burning in my throat and heartburn
tighness in the throat also and shortness of breath
so my problems are not over
I am down 28 lbs now, these problems came out of nowhere and were bad right from the start. I never had any problems before, this started maybe 2 mos ago.
Surgeon said taking GB out could fixed the GERD problems
maybe it is still too soon to tell but as of now it did not solve the acid reflux issues :(

Sometimes the gallbladder is causing the GERD issues, but usually not. The Colestid and Questran are cholesterol meds, but they work better to control excess bile after gallbladder removal than lowering cholesterol according to my GI and PCP. If you have bile induced diarrhea they can help with that.
