Anybody on here using Carafate? and having any success?

I tried carafate years ago with negligible results.  It may coat the esophagus briefly, but it's sure no cure for GERD.

They didn't do anything for me. It was like trying to swallow wet chalk, got stuck every time.

Works for me along with Kapidex and Aloe Vera Juice. I recently had the "opportunity" to go 1 month without due to some conflict between doctors and pharmacy. I really felt the difference then.

From what I know, it works for some and not so much for others. Since I have chronic gastritis I really need something to coat the stomach.

I was also told to never skip a meal because the stomach starts ramping up the acid about an hour before a meal in anticipation of having something to digest.

Carafate works wonderful for me. I hate that you have to take it on an empty stomach but it really helps to take it at bedtime and then before lunch and dinner. I have chronic gastritis and I think that's why it works so well for me. If I don't take it before bed though I have reflux that comes up and burns. I also take nexium and pepcid but those alone don't work and neither does the carafate alone. Barb
