EGD RESULTS..HMM?

I'm not a doctor, but my own endoscopes had the same terms in them. In my case my doctor said I had chronic gastrititis of undetermined origin. The biopsies are to rule out cancer and infections such as H. Pylori. The polyps are gastric. My doctor said gastric polyps are nothing (they don't develop into anything and are just there). He said medicine can't say whether someone who has gastritis would develop the polyps if they aren't on the ppis or not. The ppis could be the cause of them or they may not.

I would ask your doctor about taking Reglan. If you google it you will find a lot of negative information about reglan. It is used to treat nausea from GERD/acid reflux by speeding up muscle contractions in the gastric area. Some of the side effects include tremors, uncontrolled muscle movement, rapid heartbeat, rapid breathing...the list goes on and on. Some of these side effects can become permanent.

Thank you Marburg!  I recall from my drugged post procedure stupor, that he mentioned the polyps were really nothing. Your analysis supports what I was thinking too.  I figured one of the biopsies would have to rule out H Pylori, and obviously cancer.  I will have to check into the gastritis stuff, he did not mention that.  I always thought the two were the same.  I have more learning to do.  When I got the Reglan script I did some reading and read all the Black Box warnings.  YIKES!  I have enough on my plate, I don't need to add those possible side effects to it.  I have the worst luck, if it can go wrong, it does.  I guess when I was born, they were all out of Irish Luck, so I got red hair and empty luck pockets.

Joy thank you for the link.  You are right, it is hard to pick out the important stuff.  Maybe I should have a couple more glasses of wine and then re-read it!   I could relate to the salmon patches in that article, I don't recall them being there the first time I was diagnosed.  So we will see what they are when the biopsy comes back.

Joy, I have an interesting question.  Has anyone made a link to an increase in GERD symptoms due to an over abundance of polyps? I wonder if you have alot of them, do they begin to compromise the ability of the stomach to do it's job.  Something is different in the way I feel.  Like a light switch, not a gradual improvement because of the med increase.  The only change from Monday to Tuesday was the removal of the polyps.  My symptoms are not as intense.  Does this make sense?  All though the voice is still rough.  I can't put my finger on it, what else could have occured during the endoscopy that would be so noticiable in my symptoms.  Yesterday I was able to eat a very nice birthday dinner out, and I was not in misery last night. I guess i will have to see, maybe it is just a fluke.  Perhaps the hydration from the IV, one or a combination of the meds I recieved during the procedure and after.  Very interesting, none the less.

I picked up some Beano so I am going to give that a go.  I am paying close attention to portion sizes, and trigger foods.  My portion sizes are reduced any way because I have been eating less for so long.  I listen to my tummy now, and when I get the first feeling of fullness, I stop. I'm going to do a journal so I can start tracking some things.  I think my bowels are slow again. Are there any herbal supplements that people find helpful getting the stomach to digest food better.  I guess it could be entirely possible there are some motility issues. 

Right now I am hidding in my room.  I just don't want to be around anyone right now.  So it is just me, no tv, no radio, just me and my laptop.  Trying to wind down from a busy day.    I'm learning more this go round then when I was diagnosed.  I have become a patient who participates in their care by gaining knowledge that perhaps the doctors don't have time to give you.  I learned a few years ago, you don't just have to sit there and whatever the doctor says is it.  I can ask better questions by trying to understand and learn about my disorders.

Awww gee thanks. I had to become a better patient because I blindly followed a doctor in a circle without knowing all the facts, surgery, after surgery, after surgery, only to end up worse off and with a permanent nerve damage.  And years later when I started to get printed copies of all surgical notes, so I could try to find out why I was having so much pain,  I was shocked to find out just how much stuff he was leaving out!!!! Had I known then what I know now, I would have realized that trying to remove abdominal adhesions after my hysterectomy, was actually causing more because he never told me about it adhesiolysis can recur, nor that I could have tried an adhesion barrier to try and stop them from forming! So after the first failed attempt, I should not have tried again!  Then he never mentioned anything about endometriosis, but it was all over my operative reports.  Needless to say when I still ended up with pain and refused more surgery, he reluctantly sent me to a university hospital for pain management consultation, and told me he would take over my treatment after they developed a plan... LIAR!  I came back from PM and had the medical management plan, medication only  because they advised no more surgery.. He dropped me like a hot potato because he didn't like the medications they put me on.  They brought me to a stable condition, and he wanted me to stop.  So I fired him and found a different PM closer to home, and he has been my saviour!

WOW, that felt good!  More venting.

I thought the whole polyp theory might be interesting.  They were not going to test mine either, he just mentioned there were alot of them, so that got me to thinking... I wondered if anyone ever had a lot of polyps, and then they were removed, and they felt a little better symptom wise because in some way their presence was preventing the stomach from functioning normally.

Yeah, I've got issues, too. I notice I get gassy when I'm constipated. Such fun. :<

Thank you Alice.  I know what you mean.  Pathology Unremarkable, in my book a fancy diagnosis for Abnormally fine, or still don't know why, and finally back to the drawing board.  

So the dr saw stuff that doesn't belong where he saw it, but the lab says normal... Geesh no wonder we go crazy....

As for the Reglan, I have no intention of taking it.  I already take Phenergan for nausea, and it works just fine!

Frustrating.

I have my followup next Thusday!  I have alot of questions for sure.  Maybe you are right, I need may need to ask for some more tests.  One other stupid weird thing is I get frequent hiccups while I am eating, as i swallow.  Very frustrating because I never know when they will strike, and sometimes I panic because I start choking.  I almost describe them as backward burps.  It freaks out my kids because a high pitch squeel occurs a sound like you make when you are startled.  Could this be a weak LES?   I think I am getting depressed. With feeling like doo doo, I am exhausted.  Just got a promotion in January, but I am not getting the luxury of waiting until my duties are distributed in the department before working my new job.  I have been working 60 hour work weeks.  Which is extremely hard when you don't feel well.  Then I panic about that because if something is found and it requires major fixing... That will stink being out.  So far my old supervisor who is picking up my tasks, is the one delaying my forward move. She doesn't want to think about my stuff, until she gets her stuff moved off.  I was ORDERED by the CEO to move forward immediately.  So because my sp is dragging her feet, I have to do my old stuff too.  Grrrrr.  My direct boss now has some regrets about her ability to do what I was doing because she does not have the same dedication that I do, nor does she have motivation to learn.  We'll see how this plays out. 

 A couple of times I missed taking my morning Zegrid because I have been so tired (GO FIGURE), and boy did I pay.  My voice is still gravel.  People at work look at me like "Better keep my distance because she's getting sick".

Is it normal to have these other tests if the EGD didn't find much?  Because if I hear that bs statement "It must be in your head, take anti-depressents", You might be hearing about me on the evening news.    Geesh.
