Sounds like the stuff they gave me to add air to help get better pics of the barium in the esophagus. I have never had it done with just that though.

Sounds like you had part of what is typically done in a barium swallow. The granules are like an Alka-Seltzer kind of product that creates air in the passage way which is photoed. Ask questions...call the dept and ask, even now. I have had many barium swallow tests, but never without the "barium". Ask your doc, he/she likely ordered it that way!

Alcie offers an important suggestion. Whether records have online portability or not (my area has this) having a copy of all tests, reports, notes, etc. is so useful. I have had to have a lot of surgery during my life so I wrote up a chronological list of all important medical data, medicines, diagnoses, etc. which I update when something changes (aren't computers wonderful!!). I bring a printed copy to a new doctor and they attach or scan it. Saves a lot of writing!

Push a little for the copies. If the radiology dept or medical records won't give them to you, ask your doctor. You should be able to get a copy of the disk of pictures. They're easy to copy and can be read on any PC.

Like my7, I keep quite a folder of my own records. I keep my notes of surgeries and procedures, also my medications, allergies, reactions to previous meds on my computer and update as necessary. I keep a short version on paper in my purse. A Sandisk or something would work too, and would be updatable. In my wallet I keep a bright yellow credit card-size note with allergies, medications, note about the fundo and my stents.

I did my stomach x-rays and abdominal ultrasound.. last week. The ultrasound was okay,except for my liver having a few fatty spots on it. My daughter called me at work Friday afternoon to tell me the doc wanted to see me for the x-rays first thing Monday morning.. That completely ruined my weekend.... What could it be ...what could it be..those words kept going in and outta of my head. This morning a went it ,I was the first patient.. He tells me it's acid reflux and an Hiatus hernia...so he told me what I already knew for the the last 25 years.He said keep taking your prevacid... I tell me 2x a day is too much,can't keep taking it forever...He said..take them when you need them...and not to worry... I hate eccentric doctors..

Nothing was talked about... keep on doing the same old..... I need a new doctor..

There's nothing srong with taking acid reducers permanently. I took them for 25 years and was reasonably happy. I only had the surgery after a bad wreck that pushed my stomach into my chest where it got stuck (paraesophageal hernia).

A small hiatal hernia is par for the course. Most people get it at some time or other. For most people they never cause a problem. It's only the really large ones or the paraesophageal type that need surgery.

I controlled my reflux by figuring out what was causing it, which in my case was food intolerances/allergies/sensitivities. My allergist had me keep a food log and write down my symptoms when I had reflux. Then I broke down the foods and even the ingredients in the foods. My acid was controlled by meds. It was just the refluxing that was giving me trouble. Acid is not the cause of reflux by itself. It doesn't make your stomach jump and squeeze and hurt. An open LES can allow the stomach contents to come up, but if there is no acid it is silent and doesn't hurt. I had this type of reflux, no pain, no acid while on the meds. I just wanted to find out the cause of the refluxing and I did, and it stopped when I stopped eating my problem foods. I still needed the acid reducers because I had a bad valve though. Had it not been for the wreck I would not have had the surgery.

I think it means you have a possible HH which seems to be inflamed. Sounds like gastritis...?
