Good Morning. I posted my story not too long ago. My doctor recently diagnosed me w/ GERD after ruling out gallbladder/pancreas (u/s) and mitral valve prolapse (echo and I had an EKG during an urgent care visit). I was having panic/anxiety symptoms, so I was put on Nexium and Citalopram. Initially, I was convinced that I just had anxiety and NOT Gerd, so I stopped the Nexium and experienced what I now think was a rebound effect. I had lots of burning/heartburn, as well as some spasms and heightened anxiety. I thought it was the Citalopram, so my doc put me on Zoloft and instructed me to go back on Nexium. At first, I was feeling much better, with only some occasional sternum/rib/back pain from the Gerd. In fact, I just went for my recheck and was telling the doctor that I felt much better. However, now I'm experiencing more back pain, what feels like side, shoulder, and arm muscle twitches, a bit of chest wall pain, copious "gurgling" and tummy talk, and loose stool (sorry). I'm still thinking that I was only suffering from anxiety (my mom had a heart scare which caused me to worry...all is well), and that being on a PPI has created Nexium dependency. However, I don't want to quit Nexium cold turkey again. My doc agreed to refer me to a gastro, but they've yet to call with the appointment. I'm 35, have a healthy body weight, great BP, and I'm tired of feeling this way! I will say that, prior to my Gerd diagnosis, my eating habits weren't stellar. Has anyone gone off of a PPI successfully? I've been reading the reviews of Nexium on the site that someone here referenced and WOW.
