I just wanted to thank you all for your responses to my post a few weeks ago! You were very helpful and I'm so greatful! SO thank you again....So, I called my old GI as I'm waiting to get my appointment to see the new GI doc. I got a script for Prevacid. 30 mill. It said to take one in the am and one in the pm. I did it that way and it did nothing! I took two in the am and it seemed to work a bit! OMG!!!!! I can't hardly believe it. Is that safe though? So, 60 mil. a day? In the evening I can get very symptomatic....as I can tell the medication after taking it about 7am is wearing off. I just wanted to see if it was safe to do that????????

I never took prevacid. I was on Nexium, but my doctor told me not to do both at once. Ask your pharmacist if it's safe. Also talk to your doctor to see if he'll up the dose for you.

Thanks Joy..... Yea, when I was on Nexium, I was taking 80 mil. a day morning and at night time. I just thought it would be ok, I'm not dead yet LOL!!! I thought maybe someone here would know as I can't get to talk to the doc. until my new appointment ya know? :)

Wow! 80mil. every morning and night! My GI told me the maximum dose is 80 mil a day.
You must be in total misery!
Have you discussed surgery options, since it seems medicine brings no relief?

I take Prevacid twice a day... one thing you must make sure is to take it half an hour before you eat anything.... I take one at 8 am and one at 8 pm since I am a late eater.... my doc told me to take 2 a day for one month..... I was taking them on a full stomach and they were not working.... actually sometimes I think they do not.

Yea, I have been more miserable with this than I can care to admit! On that much Nexium it didn't touch me...I'm having good luck with this Prevacid it seems SO far...I hope it continues! Thanks Mike! Yea, I have been taking 60 mil. 30 minutes before breakfast, I appreciate your comment as well!

Don't increase dosage without doctor approval! I was on Prevacid for a couple months and it brought a whole host of symptoms including severe nausea, depression, abdominal pains, and weight loss. Of course I don't mean to alarm you and I'm sure my reaction was highly abnormal, just an example of how drugs can affect you without your realizing it and you should use them under close doctor supervision.

I was going to be put on 60 mg twice a day if I didn;t agree to surgery since the 30mg twice a day wasn't working anymore. Prevacid is what worked the best for me before surgery.

Becky-is this Prevacid OTC or script version? Actually is there a difference? I use the OTC and was considering doubling the 15mg once a day dosage I take right now. Thx, MM

Thank you you all....I'm taking the script prevacid 30 mil. a pill. I have taken two in the morning and do pretty good ALL day. Thanks for the info on the dangers, I just can't afford to NOT take that much! It's the ONLY relief I have had since Dec. I have been out of my life and with 4 kids, I can't keep that up. So, I think I should be ok maybe till later this week when I see my new Gi doc I will tell them what I did to get myself out of pain! I have had every symptom related to GERD, chest pain, stomach pain, reflux, regirgitation, exsessive burping, etc.

Well, the reason I was switching Gi docs was because my doc. would not believe how uncomfortable I have been!HOw disappointing! Been dealing with pain since the first weekend in Dec. Can you believe he prescribed me lortab for pain?!??? After he found the hernia. Told me to take the motility test and PH test...and you know the rest...I have not taken the PH test yet. After the Motility I just could not. Looks like that will be my next step though... probably. We will see what the doc. says huh?

You guys have been great! So glad to find you! The information here is good to have. Other experiences and such. Appreciate it!
