Gastroparesis disappeared after surgery

Hi everyone, I was dxed with gastroparesis   10 years ago and I have been taking reglan for that. I recently had surgery for  gallbladder removal and when I woke up from surgery my gastroparesis symptoms have disappeared. I am beginning to think I have never had gastroparesis at all.  My gb just eventually stopped working thats why I had taken out . I am wondering when I was dxed was my gb was low functioning and that what caused my symptoms of gastroparesis.  It seems funny that when i had my gb removed my symptoms went away. Any thoughts on this?

I am glad the symptoms went away for you, but I haven't clue why. I;m not even sure what gastroparesis is. Hmmmm, guess I should google it or something. Hope you continue to keep feeling better every day.

Bill,gastroparesis is a slow moving digestive track that causes naseau ,vomiting and bloating.

Hey Kimber,


Did you ask you surgeon if your gastroparesis could have been related to your gallbladder?



Factors that can make it difficult for your stomach to empty properly include:


* Diabetes

* Abdominal surgery

* Certain medications that slow the rate of stomach emptying, such as narcotic pain medications and antidepressants

* Certain cancer treatments

* Anorexia

* Bulimia

* Scleroderma

* Parkinson's disease

* Hypothyroidism

Perhaps another member will have some input for you.

 I have gastroparesis, and I never knew why I got it! Now I do,
I do have Hypothyroid and Pre Diabetes, and found this info

very helpful! Thanks for sharing how this can be got, I didnt know

any of this and will watch my meds closely now. Thanks!

I was just told I have gastroparesis recently. I had the nissen in Dec last year and have had problems since. I had my gall bladder checked before the nissen and it was fine. I don't have any other problems. I'm wondering if the nissen could have messed with the gall bladder?

I had a very similar experience to yours in 2009. I have had gastroparesis since February, 2008 and was finally correctly diagnosed with it in January, 2009. However, my gall bladder was basically dead so I opted to have it removed in September, 2009. During the first two weeks post-op, I was sick as a dog... throwing up a lot and very nauseous. Then, I quit taking Percocet and within 24 hours my GP symptoms were gone! (Narcotics make gastroparesis MUCH WORSE, but nobody told me that, I had to find out for myself.) Anyhow, for the first time in almost two years, I was able to eat real meals and gain weight! (about ten pounds)

Unfortunately, the good times didn't last. A few months later, my GP symptoms returned (fullness, abdominal pain, bloating, a little nausea) but I was able to hold my weight and even gain another five pounds in early 2010. For the rest of the year, I did okay but basically lost that weight back.

How are your GP symptoms now? Still gone, or did they come back? Also, do you find your symptoms are worse in the winter? That's been the pattern for me.
