Stretta Procedure

Has anyone underwent this procedure? What was the result? Are there any complications I should be aware of?

I have had constant GERD for a long time and I think this might be a less extreme first surgical option before a fundoplication surgery

What's everyone's opinions?

The Stretta procedure is a non-surgical Gastroesophageal Reflux treatment. It was approved by the FDA in 2000, and since then has been successfully used to help many GERD sufferers find relief from their acid reflux/heartburn symptoms.



Stretta is an outpatient procedure performed with the patient under intravenous conscious sedation.

You have to be carefully selected to be able to have Stretta. I let my very experienced surgeon decide what was right for me, based on a number of tests.

I got a Toupet fundoplication - like the Nissen, but a partial wrap. It was chosen because I had a paraesophageal hernia, wide open LES, poor swallowing. It was necessary to pull the stomach back down and close the hernia, so it couldn't be anything but a real surgery. The LES had to be wrapped because it was pretty useless. The partial wrap option was decided based on needing to have enough power to swallow past the wrap.
At least I had enough esophagus, after it was dissected down, to not need a Collis.

I had my Nissen done on may 20th of this year, and so far I think its one of the best decision I have ever made in my life. If I had to do it again, I would in a heart beat. I dont know much about the Stretta Procedure, but I think If you fit all the criterias for the procedure and have a skilled surgeon, then go ahead and do it. yeah
