so i just had a capsule placed to determine ph levels

im already hating this thing cause when i eat after i swallow i have chest pain..the dr did warn me about this basically i gotta tough it out and hope it minimizes and especially hope it goes away soon after the 48 hours once the capsule dislodges

my main question is i see others that had this test are able to read there ph levels before going to the dr on the device given to us i dont see any ph numbers when i look at the device

The receiver I had didn't have any numbers on it. Just the time. I have heard others could read the levels though. I was pretty disappointed when I couldn't.

you had results though right..cause i got nervous that because i wasnt seeing it that it was recording

If the capsule doesn't dislodge and you are miserable, you can go to the ER and ask for it to be removed. It can take a week or more for the thing to fall off.

I had no idea that some recorders have no visible pH readings! If I ever have to have another I'll make sure I get one that does have it. Mine fell off after only 24 hours, and I would have had to have it redone if I hadn't written down the numbers myself every time I took a swallow or tried to eat anything.

Mostly I couldn't eat because my LES was wide open and pH was 1.2 all the time. It hurt too much to even drink anything. Including the 10 day prep without any acid reducers, I lost 15 pounds.

i hope mine falls off sooner rather then later these chest pains are so bad i tried thin slices of boars head turkey that hurt sometimes drinking water hurts but most of the time it doesnt..i had a jello that really didnt hurt..i just tried to have pancakes and that was the worst yet

Stick to liquids and very soft foods until it falls off. No bread! Also small bites will help.
Sometimes they get too much skin in the needle that holds it and it hits a nerve.
Mine fell off after day five. Mine had numbers to see.

thank you for the advice...did you have chest pain with or without swallowing?

I felt mine when I turned my head to the right or left. I could swallow okay with it. I could feel a slight tug when I swallow, but it wasn't very painful.

oh ok..one more question when you say 5 days is that 5 days after the 48 hours or 5 days counting the days of the test

Hello guys!
Now after reading your posts about Bravo System,I'm a little scared.

How does the "pill"fall off?Does it go away trhough the evacuation??

May it be really painful??May it dislodge after a long time??

The disposable capsule naturally comes loose from the esophagus and is eliminated with body wastes a day or two after the test is completed. The device does not need to be retrieved.

You don't realize when it falls off. You suddenly realize you don't feel it any more. I didn't know when mine passed, because it's very small.
When they inserted mine they told me it could take up to five days for it to fall off. Mine fell off right about that time. It all depends on how much skin they attach it to.
You can probably find a video somewhere on the web showing the process.

Kitt,I watched the video and there were other videos about the ware ph monitoring....brrrr....they are awful!!!!I'm so scared and I have panic attacks!!!I think I will never have that exam!!!I'm afraid I will never have the motility test neither!!!!

im forcing my self to eat with this thing..im chewing very thoroughly most of time still feel very intense pain but since alot of things i read state that eating is what moves this thing out of your system im forcing my self to deal with the pain

If you think you need the surgery you must make up your mind that you need the testing too. It's not fun, but if it shows that surgery is not the answer you save yourself a lot of pain and recovery and money. If you do need the surgery it can show the doctors what type would be best for you.

I was about the worst patient to ever have these tests. My gag reflex is horrible! But the results proved that I have a weak swallow and my valve was wide open. So I needed a Nissen type surgery, but only would tolerate a partial wrap. The doc got it right and I can swallow without things getting stuck. Also I have no reflux into my esophagus anymore.

You probably won't have nearly the trouble with the test as I did. I'm old and had polio as a child. So get it done and stop worrying. The only alternative is to not have the surgery at all and not get better.

I'm the biggest baby in the world when it comes to medical procedures. I used to hypervenilate at the sight of a needle coming at me. I cringed at the dentist chair if they have to do anything involving pain in the slightest.
I have to turn my head when they take blood from me every three months for my blood tests.
I was so terrified of the first barium swallow and the heart echogram I had to have, that I went to the doctor two hours before the test in hysteria! I have to have so much valium in me I floated into the testing lab. Same goes for the first EGD test I had done. They had to dope me up and knock me out to do the test.
When it came around to the second time I needed the tests again. I was much calmer. I knew what to expect and was able to relax some. I was still nervous, but wasn't hysteric.

Yes. The manometry test isn't fun. It does require a great deal of mind control. After they got the tube in me I was able to distract myself by closing my eyes and focus on gripping my hands together. I kind of "Zen" out, went out of body you might say. I did my best to distract my mind from what I was feeling during the procedure.

Please consider it. It is for the best.

Hi!

I'm very nervous and angry...

I called to a doctor in Milan to have Bravo capsule,she told me that it costs about 1,500 Euro!!!! mad

So..what to do?!?May I spend so much for an exam???It's awful,crazy!!!!

I can't believe!!!!

Then I must have the classic ph monitoring....oh My God!!!!

I'm getting crazy!!!! sad

Let me see if I understand your post, you have to pay for the Bravo capsule test but not for the traditional test? How does that work?



Is 1,500 Euro the difference between the cost of the 2 tests ?

This one is private and not prescribable.

The traditional is cheap by the mutual insurance and the medical prescription.

I have had a psychological therapy for a lot of years...and I went to a psychology for about 4 years but nothing....my problem is the phobia to be sick and vomit..it is called "emetophobia",then I'm scared a lot for every kind of tube or ware tests.

Since you have gagging issues, I suggest paying the extra for the capsule for the peace of mind.
