Joy,
If you can swing it, you would probably do well to hire a professional to handle your extreme ant problem. One day I had hundreds of ants in one of our rooms. I vacuumed them all up and taped the bag shut. Then I called the pros. We had to have an ant contract for the last four years we lived in our other house. Ants would show up everywhere. With your asthma issues, you should definitely be staying away from the spray. The pro who came to our house said we had the worst infestation he'd seen. After the initial treatments, the ant numbers went way down, and it was just an occasional visitor.
Yes, I do know the hard work and stress involved in getting ready for open house! Teaching in general is a boatload of work! I hope you have a good class this year. I'm sure you'll have your challenges, as teachers always do! I know the open house, in addition to ants and remodeling, is about to put you over the edge. That's not good for your asthma, either! Take a deep breath and do what everyone else told me to do--relax and stop being such a perfectionist! Do what you can do, and don't worry about what doesn't get done, because nobody but you will know or notice!
Good luck with the ants, Joy, and take care of that asthma.
Kitt,
Thanks for your good wishes and concern. It's not fun dealing with reflux after the surgery, but I have some good docs who will guide me through. My new asthma doc is amazing. He is not pleased with GI docs, though, and when I asked him to recommend one, he expressed his frustration over the GI doc's clueless about asthma/GERD connection issue.
Unfortunately, right now my reflux is really kicking up (it seems to ebb and flow--literally!). My asthma doc doesn't like the wedge at night. I have my bed elevated, but when things are bad, I feel like the wedge takes some pressure off. I know that if I slip down on it, it can put me in a bad position, but I'm a light sleeper, and generally readjust myself if I slip down.
Does anyone have an opinion on this? Should I listen to my asthma doc and ditch the wedge, or go with my gut feelings that it helps when I'm having a flare-up. I'd love to hear what you think.
Barb,
You sound like you have a good attitude going forward with your new job situation. If you catch yourself thinking negative thoughts about it, just halt those thoughts and replace them with thoughts of gratitude for all you have to be thankful for--your family, your scrap-booking, your friends here and other places. Your mind can't think negative and positive thoughts at the same time, so if you keep your mind on the positive, things will go much more smoothly and happily in your job and life.
You still have lots of options, but there is no rush to jump into anything. You can take your time and consider everything before deciding to stay or go. The economy is bad now, but it won't be forever. Just know that ultimately you have choices, but you also have time.
Hope you have/had fun at the grill, and have lots of laughs!
Take care and have a great weekend, everyone!
Denise
