Good Morning,
Thank you God for giving me a sense of humor.
Arrived at hospital and they had no info re my test at registration however after 15 mins they figured it out and yes I was scheduled in Cardio Lab.
I was told to be there at 7:30 but my procedure was not until 9:30 AM. That gave the nurse plenty of time to prep me. Staff was really nice which helped alot.
Finally I had a swish and swallow, throat spray and then a licodaine lollipop to dissolve to numb my throat. Yum. Medication was Versed 7 mg and Fentanyl 10 mg. The cardiologist could not get the scope down due to my " small esophagus" so she stuck her finger in my mouth and I guess I bit her..........oops not a nice thing for me to do.
Next thing I know they are sending me to a hospital uptown that can have anesthesia available as they did not have anyone where I was. OMG
Uptown the nurse tells me the cardiologist that was doing my first procedure was not really good at TEEs yet ! The cardiologist to give it a second try was much better and she was sure he would perform the procedure without problems.
Anesthesia was on stand-by. Finally at 2:00 PM the second cardiologist did the scope after a repeat of all the meds, however they gave me the full dose of Fentanyl to begin with rather then titrating it slowly, and procedure was done. I was fine, I did not bite this Dr. and the test looked really good, no hole in my heart.
My only snafu was in having ice cream for dinner and had nasty regurge all night as well as heartburn.
If anyone is having a scope with medicaton - that part is a walk in the park IMHO. I am glad the procedure is over and my hubby was my rock along with all of you here.
Lots of hugs,
Kitt
