Tif Surgery/week 12 of recovery

Hello Everyone,

Well it's week 12.  It's the week I have been thinking of for a lONG time.  Being healthy again.  Today I made homemade Peanutbutter Cup Pie for my husband.  Yes, I indulged.

Guess what ?  The heartburn is as bad as it ever was.  All that for nothing.  The Dr. said

to me 2 weeks ago that his surgeries have experienced 100% success rate.

On Aug 10th, I will be repeating the Bravo Ph test to see if it did indeed fail.  It must be keeping my Dr. up at night because they usually wait 6mnths to do the Bravo Ph test.

I am sooooo upset that it didn't work.  He says I shouldn't be having ANY HEARTBURN.  My poor 11 year son caught me crying today.. mad

I am sorry to read your heartburn is as bad as it ever was. I know how discouraged and down you are feeling and I hope your Bravo Ph test gives your Dr. some insight into what is going on.

You had the TIF, right?
I've been reading alot on the internet about more failures than the company was reporting to begin with. I'm so sorry, you've got problems with it.
Go back to your original post-Tif diet and good luck.

Gerd 11    I was disappointed my TIF surgery didnt work either.

I wonder how many others have failed that we dont know about.

I had some tests done last thurs. at Shady Side Hospital.     I am waiting for the results of the tests before I can make an appointment with the dr to see what he says.

I wish you the best.   Let us know what happens.

Mitsie, Joy and Skitt,

Thanks for your support.  I have been feeling sorry for myself.  My Dr. said we can do the full nissen.  I am not in support of it bec/ my recovery was tough w/ this one.  The  recovery was supose to be easy.

(with the testing coming up)He's not too positive that it will give us insight on why it didn't work.  He said sometimes they don't and the medical community doesn't know why.

Mitsie, please post me a not letting me know your results. Thank you.  What are you willing to try?

I havent talked to the dr yet, but probably I am looking at another surgery.   I would guess the lap nissen.    I have barretts so I am pretty concerned about acid coming up into my throat.     I seem to be getting it all the time.

I wont really know until I get to talk to him, but I will let you know what he says.

Mitsie and Gerd11 I am feeling so sorry for you both! How depressing still getting heartburn after going through the surgery. I always wish they wouldn't put a time on when you should be recovered because I was told after my gallbladder surgery that I would be fine within a week and it took me 3 weeks to feel ok again and I just kept wondering what the hell was wrong with me and that something serious must be happened if I still wasn't right way past when they said I would be. We are all different so I think a time limit is silly.
I hope you both get some answers soon and you are in my prayers for a positive outcome!

There is an alternative to a full 360 wrap. It's called 270 wrap. It's not as tight, but it does a good job. I can burp with ease and eat almost everything I love (peanuts give me trouble).

Ask your surgeon about this.

Coachtater did you have the TIF or Just the 270.  Can you tell me a bit about it and what your experience was?  Recovery? Diet? How invsasive?

I had the 270. I wanted the TIF, but my surgeon told me I had too big of a HH.

He took the floppy top of my stomach and wrapped it 270 degrees around my esophagus. He described it like taking a pants leg and wrapping around the ankle. I had 5 bandaid sized cuts on my stomach, four below my ribs, one in my belly button.

My surgeon was extremely skilled in laproscopic surgery. He made sure the gas was bled out of me before sewing me up. This kept me from having shoulder pains others complain about. In the hospital I only asked for pain meds right after I woke up. It was 24 hrs before I needed it again for my ride home. I took some only at night to sleep because I was tender when I slept on my side.
I was on liquids for three weeks. Then soft foods for three more weeks. I slowly added more solid foods as I felt I could eat. I didn't carry anything over 5 lbs or bend over for six weeks.

What bothered me the most after the surgery were two things: I had painful hiccups when I over ate, I developed an inflamed vein from my IV site. They accidently gave me pain meds on top of anti-nausea meds that hadn't cleared my vein yet from the surgery. It cause a great deal of pain in my arm for several weeks.

hey its not easy..i have considered tif as it sounds more friendly but i question the results. go through with the test and see where things are. as joy said you can still do a wrap. a partial wrap may help. i know all about breaking down in front of the kids. do not beat yourself up it happens. you were crying because of your kids you just want to be well and enjoy their life. keep pushing on and i have had to talk with my 8 year old about me crying. not ideal but we are humans. i am seeking answers here too and there are many caring people who still come here long after recovery to lift those of us are are down up

When I was having attacks twice daily and vomiting I cried in front of my kids all the time and I had to ask them to go and play because Mum was sick and needed to be left alone. I think it's good for kids to see that parents have problems too. My kids were great. Now when I cough a lot my 5 year old says "are you all right Mum? do you need to spew?" I think it's quite cute :-)

yes and all of here have suffered and our kids undoubtedly do too. we try to limit but it is not easy. in the end our kids will know its because we care and will have more empathy as adults.
