Good Morning,
The long-term safety of PPIs is not completely known. Clinical experience with these medications ranges from 3 to 20 years. All of the identified studies addressing long-term use have follow-up of 10 years or less.
Most often, your doctor can diagnose LPR by examining your throat and vocal cords per endoscopy. The voice box is typically red, irritated, and swollen from acid reflux damage. This swelling and inflammation will eventually resolve with medical treatment, although it may take a few months. If you had a scope in February perhaps you need to see a second GI physician to see what is going on now.
If you were on the PPIs in the past did the medication work for you ?
There is always hope IMHO that things will get better. Keep on talking with the members here in the forum as they have amazing "hope" to share.
Kindly,
Kitt
