Hi Janice, Joy, and Kitt,
Thank you all for your kind words and good wishes! Baby and mother are doing fine. I have been told by many people that being a grandma is the best thing ever, and they weren't kidding! My husband and I are in love with that tiny baby♥♥♥♥, and as you can imagine, we can't get enough of him!
We're giving the other grandma and grandpa some special time with mommy and baby, since she lives out of town and won't be able to be with him as much as we will. Our turn will come. That said, he's only really tiny once, and we just have to be able to see him once in a while. Babies change so quickly at this stage, that I want to enjoy his tiny "newbornness" before he grows out of it!
Keep in mind, as the mother in law, I know my place. No advice, no opinions. That doesn't come easily to me, and my tongue is getting bite marks all over it! I'm going to try to be a good MIL. Also, I'm cooking and providing meals all week, including a requested dessert--Snicker Bar Pie. I'm doing whatever I can to win brownie points!
My son was just so adorable when he came out to inform the family members who were anxiously awaiting the news. I wish I'd had a video of it. He was in seventh heaven..."We've got a baby! It's a boy--and his name is Ryan John." Keep in mind that my son Ryan was there, and had been making jokes all along that if the baby was a boy it should, of course, be named Ryan. When it turned out to be the name, he was speechless! Everyone has been ecstatic since the baby came.
Now to change topics...
My surgeon ordered four tests. Video esophagram (sp?), manometry, endoscopy, and he's placing a wired PH monitor probe that has two receptors...one up higher and one in the traditional place, in an effort to see movement, and determine in the best way he can, whether (if I have reflux) it is making it far enough up the esophagus to affect the lungs and vocal chords. I'm not so sure that the PH monitor can measure bile reflux...can it?
I had the video esophagram (barium swallow with moving pictures) yesterday. The radiologist used only thick barium, and I was wondering if thin barium would have showed different things. Anyway, it appears that my repair and wrap are in tip top shape, and that I am getting no reflux.
Go figure...I wonder what's causing the discomfort I'm feeling in my esophagus, wrap, and why I have a sour sensation on my tongue at times? Oh well...we'll see what my other tests show (Dec. 7, and I'll see the surgeon on Dec. 17th). Hey, if nothing shows a problem, and I pass all tests, there's no need to do a revision, right? Janice, did you see my post about the surgeon and his experience? Did you have an opinion?
Barb, where are you? I'm sure you're getting more and more excited about your granddaughter's visit!
Hope you're feeling better!
Take care, everyone! I've been super busy lately, as you can imagine. On Wednesdays, I spend the day working in my son's third grade class, so I'm pooped! After school, I tutor a little boy for an hour, so it has been a busy day!
Talk to you soon,
Denise
