My symptoms began 5 weeks ago and have been getting progressively worse. My doctor has been proactive (a blessing) but all tests so far indicate that things appear "normal". Had the upper GI series, an ultrasound of my gallbladder and a CT scan of my abdomen. I was told that these tests "ruled out the dangerous things", which did make me feel some better (emotionally). Symptoms began with pain on left side just below ribcage radiating to back --- front pain is dull, back pain is sharp. Belching is the symptom leading my doctor to believe it's GI-related. Often it feels like there is a big wide rubber band squeezing my ribcage - I don't know how else to describe it - and when that's happening, the back pain is on both sides, upper quadrants. Yesterday was the absolute worst - woke up feeling more severe symptoms which progressed throughout the day and actually thought I might be having a heart attack last night. It was the first night I couldn't find relief in a reclining position and it scared me. Today, my doctor prescribed a "GI cocktail" (lidacaine) which took the edge off, but only lasted a couple of hours. The pain never really went away after the cocktail, but I'll use it tonight if I need it. Does anyone have any thoughts or results to share?
