Hey,
A little early warning this may be long lol. I first started having problems back on March 2009 where I was eating fast food literally almost everyday, basically what would happen is that I would get a very dry mouth and also very thick mucus in my throat, also at times would feel like a gagging sensation (not sure if it is a throat spasm), also not able to sit down for long periods of time like while being in a movie theater or sitting in my 2hr class, and also feel sick when over ate or even after eating and burping somewhat, clearing throat alot and sometimes voice hoarse, but never had heartburn. Mind you I am 21 yrs old, I am not overweight as I stand 5'11 at 165 lbs and at the gym 5 days a week. When the problems started happening I consulted my MD and he recommended me to an ENT (ears, nose throat doc.). I went to go see the ENT and he looked up my nose and saw my mucous membranes in my nose were pale, and also he did the exam where he stuck a camera to see the back of my throat and he told me there was nothing there unusual, but did see a lot of mucous that was clear. He thought it was allergies and gave me some meds for allergies and a nose spray and told me to return in a month. The allergy meds wasn't working, but I continued taking them until the month ended. I returned to him and told him I still felt what I felt and he sent me for a thyroid exam which came out negative. I continued to go back to him for a couple of months, until I opted to go see a gastrologist.
When I visited the gastrologist he gave me some sort exam that he had me take off my shirt and told me to lie down on my back. He then pressed on my stomached and asked me if I felt any sort of pain, I did I felt a small pain sensation from where he pressed to the back of my throat where I have been having my problems. He told me before he started to put me on medication that he wanted to verify first and had me scheduled for an endoscopy and he would also take a sample. Probably the most pain in the butt thing I had to do with not eating or drinking past midnight before the procedure. A couple of days after the procedure I visited him to now the results and he told me that there was visible irritation in my esophagus. Also my sphincter was a little loose, but not loose like a truck can drive through. Also the biopsy came back and saw no signs of cancer, just irritated cells he said. He then put me on Dexilant 60mg, and told me to stay on it for 8 weeks. He told me that the problems I have been getting with my throat (gagging feeling at times, thick mucous) is because my throat may be very sensitive and he also told me that if I wanted he can give me a very very small dose of antidepressant medication to numb my throat to get rid of the throat problems, I told him if needed it I'll come back for it. I am now on week 7 of my Dexilant medication and so far I have been feeling better, not getting sick anymore, or waking up at night feeling sick. But I still have thick mucous in the back of my throat. Has anyone have any bad luck where they needed to take Dexilant for more then 8 weeks? Did anyone have the same symptoms as I was having? Is there something I can take to get rid of this thick mucous in the back of my throat? Thanks and sorry for the long post
