Hi Jake,
I thought I had acid reflux - (even though I never had heartburn) the drs told me I had as I always had phlegm in my throat ... they told me it was my throat which made phlegm to protect itself from the stomach acid. I also had difficulty in swallowing my food, or even water ... afterwards found out it was due to the thick sticky phlegm which my stomach released thru my weak LES ..and which got stuck in my throat (or I think lined my throat, narrowing same) making it difficult to swallow. I posted an item about low stomach acid which can also cause GERD,(with links to interesting articles) as it turned out that I had too low stomach acid, and by the way, too low stomach acid and too high stomach acid has more or less the same symptoms. Low stomach acid will also release some acid ... I had to take a PPI for a month ... only got worse, so decided by myself that if a PPI made me worse it meant I did not have sufficient acid .. did research ... ditched the PPI, and started taking digestive enzymes. I am as close to 100% ok as can be!!
Just sharing this ... having read so many postings I have not come across anybody else with my problems, and I'm sure I cannot be unique!
Good luck,
Cecelia
