Hi dohare11,
Welcome to Healing Well! I am forever amazed at the lack of information and support provided Nissen Fundoplication patients by their surgeons.
The things you are experiencing are totally normal, and will certainly improve as you heal. Healing from the surgery is a long-term process, so you'll have to be patient.
The first two weeks are the most challenging, for sure. Just think--you just had your upper GI tract completely revised! Your stomach was wrapped around your esophagus and stitched there. This will take time for adjustment and healing. Your diaphram has been irritated, and that leads to hiccups.
Here's a link with explains the connection:
www.wrongdiagnosis.com/h/hiccups/causes.htmYour new wrap/stomach is very irritated and swollen. I was told by my surgeon that the swelling will continue to increase and peak at two weeks. Don't be surprised if your swallowing gets worse before it gets better.
Eat very small amounts--many small meals throughout the day--and once you introduce solids be sure to chew it thoroughly until it is turned into a liquid.
I suggest that you create a new thread on the main page of this forum, and ask your questions there.
Things will definitely get better. Just try to relax and follow your recovery where it leads you. When you struggle against it, you will have a much more difficult time.
Good luck! Welcome to our Wrapped Club!
Take care,
Denise
