gastric stomach cancer

Hi,

My neigbor has gastric stomach cancer and cannot keep any food down. She is down to 80 pounds and it is very sad. Does anyone out there know of any foods that I can prepare, buy? Family is running out of ideas and I would really like to do something and help. She is a sweet Italian and use to love to eat. Thank you,

I'm sorry to hear about your neighbor, and I have no experience here. The only thing I can think of is perhaps making some sorts of soups, maybe a broth or something?

Can she tolerate milk products? Perhaps a nice homemade egg custard. It is very soothing and contains lots of nutrition.
So sorry to hear about your neighbor's suffering.
Hopefully others will be by to offer suggestions.

Maybe her doctor should be contacted in this situation especially if she can't keep anything down at all. My second thought is that maybe something like a supplement drink such as Boost might help if she can tolerate it. When my friend was dying of breast cancer and couldn't keep anything down and was losing weight rapidly her husband gave her the supplement drink like Boost and that seemed to help. The extra calories and vitamins might help even if it is just a little.

I am so sorry to hear of your neighbors situation. I am wondering if she is a candidate for total parenteral nutrition which can be given at home through an IV line, usually a line that is known as a PICC line.

I am also wondering what her prognosis is and if she has any home care to help her? There are so many services available that I would like to see her plugged into ones that can keep her comfortable and address her nutritional needs.
