Well Two Hounds I can relate to the vomiting after surgery. I was sent home with compazine, but within a few days I had akathesia so bad, I had to quit taking it. Also, my medical records are all screwed up cuz I had a gastroxopy without a fundlipication.(try looking up that one-almost all posts pertain to the procedure on dogs!) It means that my stomach was tacked down to my diaphram. Every doctor pushed and entered into my records I had the fundlipication, and it was in the surgeons dictation, but I am the only one who finally went and got it! I have to say the first few weeks it felt as if I had no signs of GERD, but then an odd thing happened.
Early in the morning I would get theses horrible dry heaves. (I can't vomit anymore since the surgery) I thought it was the opiate pain meds since I have extensive degeneration from C-spine to L-5/S-1. Then I started getting the dry heaves in the middle of the day also. The last time was so violent that I felt something "give". The GERD had been slowly creeping up, but after that, it was like before the surgery, only worse.
I sure hope I am making sense here. I have been hospitalized twice, seen serveral GIs that tell me I need to get the fundlipicaton, but these were docs I saw in the hospital; they didn't take my insurance on outpatient. The 3 I have seen out patient look like I'm crazy when I tell them I have to sit on the toilet with a trash can on my lap when I have a BM. My insides get so sore and makes everything else worse. personally, I feel like these doctors in my network are afraid to operate, so they say I don't need it. I got a new PM this week, so I was reading over all the imaging reports, and I saw that 30% of my stomach is back in my chest. Should I push to be evaluated for surgery by someone whos not aftraid to do it?
I almost died last time, I felt deathly ill, had a seizure, was in the ER in an hour and a half. It took a physical and mental toll, I hav't been able to shake and it's been over 2 yrs now. I had internal bleeding so bad I had lost weight from a comfortable size 9 to a 4. The 10 cortisone ESI's put 50 lbs on me. I have lost 12 lbs, but it is hard. I can't eat alot of things once more, so that's the only upside I can see. Sorry for rambling on, but I can see that others in the forum have similar medical conditions and I may have some insights for u as well as for myself. Thx for being here.
