 I started have symptoms of "both" a little over a year ago.  My 1st episode made me call 911 and got to the ER, Had heart enzymes done and EKG. All were negative!  I have had a Cardiac Cath which was considered completely clear.  I take Nexium and Ativan for the Anxiety.  I still get chest pains(not severe just annoying) that radiate to my back and left shoulder.  Does anyone have these symptoms?  Im still not convinced its not cardiac even though ive had a clear cath result and all test have been negative!

I am wondering if you have seen a GI physician re your chest pain and any other sx of GERD ?  I see you take Nexium but have you had any other tests ?

I have not seen a GI specialist. I seem to get "attacks" of it. They set in very quickly and last for a few hours!

And I do get heartburn and regurgitating of food into the esophagas. Just wondering if the shoulder discomfort is common?

You really need to see a gastroenterologist and have the testing done.

Hi cubfan,

Your post could have very well been written by me. I have gone through (still am) so much confusion with heart-vs-GERD issues and I know how worried or uncertain you can be.

Since you have had heart tests done, the next step is to see a gastroenterologist.

You mentioned you take Nexium. Does your chest pain go away after taking it, or does it persist?

Pinks, I take one nexium a day. I was told be my Dr that its a once a day type pill.
