Surgery - Symptoms you had before and after ?

Hey Guys + Gals

Well sitting here with 4 pillows behind me in bed after suffering another uncomfortable day and wondering a few things....

For those of you who have had the nissen fundoplication operation by a great experienced surgeon I just want to ask a couple of questions...

- What symptoms did you have before surgery and then did these symptoms go after the surgery ?
- Did the surgery give you any new health problems and if so how long did they last ?
- Can you eat what you used to eat before the whole acid reflux entered your life ?
- If you had your time would you have it done again ?

Basically I have had an endoscopy and everything was normal apart from the fact that my LES valve was "wide open" - I am due to have the 24hr PH test and a manometry soon and possibly more tests but I have a feeling that the gastro doctor will come back saying surgery is the best option. I don't think I get heartburn as such, more so an acid burn at the back of my throat, definently a reflux or regurgitation feeling and a heap of nausea from time to time and the feeling of a lump in the throat.

I am just so over it as I guess so are most of us ! Very interested to hear if the surgery helped other symptoms other than just the burn ?

Joy's list is about the same as mine, but I had severe heart burn ALL the time. Would I do it again? Yep.....and I did! I eat anything I want now. Even use hot sauce and eat salsa all the time. Sure I pay for it once in a while, but it's about .05% of what it used to be. My PH study score was in the 400s. The highest my GI had ever seen, so my only option was surgert since over 4 years of PPIs didn't do a thing for it.
