Well its here....no turning back now. Check in tomorrow @ 5:30 AM at the Mayo hospital, surgery @ 7:15......aye carumba....

eating tacos by ....July 4th?

Don't push the diet. Plan on 1/4 cup liquid at a time to start, eating very often, and don't ever try to fill up the new stomach the way you filled the old one. I didn't lose any weight.

A couple of tacos by 7/4 if you tolerate the ingredients.

Tacos by July 4th? Hmmmmm...you'll be the judge of that! Just so you take small bites and chew whatever you eat to a liquid, you'll do fine with pretty much anything. Stay away from "heat" for a while, though...can you manage mild tacos? LOL.

Hey we are going to be Wrap Buddies! Mine is tomorrow at 7:00 a.m....

I'm nervous but just think, tomorrow will be the first day of our normal, hopefully GERD free lives!!!

I am back......doc said everything went well. Very sore, but morphine got me through the night. Had a swallow test this morning, that went well. So they pulled the tube out of my nose and I had some broth and apple juice. No problem. Around noon had purred chicken and mashed potatoes, and got full really fast.

I am going to have to be careful with the eating.....made the 150 mile trip back home with no problem.Things are still really sore, my throat si sore from the tube and lack of water all night. and of course the incisions....

so here we go with the healing....

Hi Pat,
Glad to hear things went well with your surgery! You will feel very full without eating much at all for a while. My surgeon explained that it is swelling of the stomach, that it interprets as fullness. This will subside gradually over time.

Keep in mind that your wrap will continue to swell over the first two weeks, peaking at 14 days, so don't be surprised if your swallowing gets dicier as you get closer to that time. This will pass, so don't worry!

Stick with full liquids until the swelling goes down for safety's sake, okay?
1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of food every two to three hours.

Yes, it does. I'm sure your doctor sent you home with eating instructions. They vary widely from surgeon to surgeon. As Joy said, your eating will be more challenging for the first couple of weeks.

My surgeon had me on soft foods until I saw him at Day 5, then allowed me to eat anything that could be chewed to a liquid. If yours had you on soft food in the hospital, I doubt he wants you to remain on liquids for an extended period of time. As Joy said, when you have difficulty swallowing soft foods, you can back off and drink liquids for a time.

I bought Carnation Instant Breakfast before I had the surgery, but never had a single glass of it. I went right to soft foods, then foods chewed to a liquid.

The only thing I have noticed is I get full fast and feal bloted

Some of us have noticed with the surgery our off buttons become faulty. We don't know when we're full and we have a tendency to overeat.
Be careful and don't overdo it.

Thanks for all the advice! Just lounging around today, watching day and night (tom cruise) I sure woke up feeling good. Kinda runnin out horse power now. time to drift into a nap.

Saw a post about being unable to do sit ups, of course I don't expect to be doing them in 2 weeks, but what about say 6 months?

Oh yeah, I understand what you guys are talking about with the shoulder pain....

Hi Pat,
Get up and walk as much as you can...just around the house. The more you walk, the quicker the shoulder pain will subside.

I had the opposite problem, Joy...I could only eat a tiny amount without being stuffed...I'm talking less than a quarter cup--maybe a quarter cup at the most! It gradually got better, and I could eat a little more.

My son thought I acted anorexic when we ate out during the early weeks! Just nibbled, ordered a half order, and took most of it home! Still, I was able to enjoy that meal for a long time! Also, a cup of soup because several meals when brought home after dinner.

I made it to the other side as well! I think that I am going to be following this message board quite closely in the next few weeks as my recovery goes further and further along. I appreciate all the support that you guys are providing!!!

Welcome to our yeah yeah yeah yeah Wrapped Club yeah yeah yeah yeah!! Glad to hear you've come through and have begun the first day of the rest of your life minus GERD!

You and Pat can share this thread, or if you'd like, you can start your own post-Nissen, and journal your own recovery experience. I think a lot of people who are looking for information on the internet appreciate the posts people write after they've had the surgery. I'm sure the two of you will provide them with lots to think about!
