Hi All!
I read about 2 hours worth of posts and unfortunately, am glad others are out there with the same problems as me. I don't feel so alone!
I've had the barium swallow, endoscope, monometry and 24hr Ph study.
Findings: Hiatal Hernia, GERD (both my mother and maternal grandfather suffered from GERD)
My gastrogenterologist is wanting me to get the surgery done to not only fix the hernia, but the GERD at the same time (what many others have or are going through).
I lost about 30 lbs and then as soon as I was put on Nexium I mysteriously gained 50 lbs in 6 months! I never put the two together until I read on here others have the same problem. I thought I was just crazy!!
Before I went in for the monometry and Ph study, they had me go off of the Nexium for a week prior. One night the pain was so unbearable that I had to go take one of the pills. I told on myself to the doctor that I did this and he said 'oh no, that means that the medication is working'. But I don't know what he meant by that? Shouldn't the medication be working? Or did he imply that because the medication is working I won't have to get the surgery?
I hope everyone has a great day.
