esophyx surgery

I was considering having the esophyx, but my surgeon said too many people were having trouble with it. Also your hiatal hernia has to be a certain size or it pulls your stomach up into your chest.
I was very nervous about the surgery, too. I have never been in the hospital or had surgery before. The thought was terrifying to me!
By talking to people here I found the courage to face my fears and go through the surgery.
It's not really that bad. Put on a breezy gown, get an IV, million questions, go to sleep, wake up sore and thirsty, get pain shot and ice chips, go home next day to rest and heal. Follow the diet carefully, pains fully gone about a week, five small cuts heal in 14 days, eating normal in four months.
The best thing is no more GERD!

I was back at work at two weeks, but I have an easy job (first grade teacher). :))
You're just on a weight lifting restriction for six weeks and a special diet for about three to four months.
I have no side effects from the surgery. Some people with a tighter wrap than me have to chew a little more than I need to.

I was reading your posts and I was wondering if you were still 100% "cured" of your reflux after having Esophyx. I was also wondering if you have / had run of the mill GERD or LPR like myself. I got gastritis suddenly one day in April and in 4 days it progressed to heartburn and gastritis. I took PPI's for 8 weeks and then stopped cold turkey. The gastritis was gone but the heartburn remained ever so slightly. It's been 6 weeks since stopping the meds and I have had a total of 3 pain-free weeks. Sad to say, the burn is back but this time, it's LPR. I've been reading all these scary things on the internet stating that LPR is more difficult to treat than GERD and it does NOT respond well to meds meaning I will NEVER be 100% pain-free. I shudder at taking PPI's for the rest of my life (I'm only 29) if they don't work 100%. Plus, I read they cause calcium, vit D, and vit B12 depletion plus more we may not know of since they haven't been around for a long time. I would like to just go ahead and have surgery if that will fix it. Did they tell you how long you can expect relief of symptoms after this procedure? What about failure rate? Can you exercise? I teach high impact aerobics and lift weights daily so I am concerned about my quality of life. Sorry to ramble, I'm just scared and feel alone. Any words of experience and wisdom are appreciated.
