Hi Folks

Thanks for replies - In response to your blog I suffer from a permanent sore throat, chest pains and burning sensation in my stomach.

 I have had pH manometry tests which showed low oesophageal sphincter  at the lower range and have a DeMeester score of 41.9 were the normal score should be around 14.7, and have endured many sleepless nights!

Hence being offered the Nissen!

Glad you've joined the forum. I've read a little of what you've written on other threads, and it looks as if you're exploring the LINX option.

I had a Nissen in February 2009, and found it a great option for me. It has been performed for over 50 years, and has been the "gold standard" for stopping reflux.

My GERD was atypical--a DeMeester score of 14.7--but it was creating a problem for my lungs. My GI doc put me off for many years, and during those years I struggled with my physical condition. The Nissen was able to control my reflux to the point that it no longer effects my lungs.

Your symptoms are far more typical...you're the patient the Nissen surgeons are very comfortable with. They will confidently do surgery on you--knowing that they will be able to improve your quality of life.

If you do decide on a Nissen in the end, be sure to research your choice of surgeon extensively. An experienced NISSEN surgeon is critical. He/she should have performed at LEAST 300+ procedures...in a bigger city 1000+ is a better number.

If you start a thread asking for Nissen surgeons in the UK I think you would get some responses, as there are several members here who have worked through the NHS and have had the surgery.
